World Just played half of News Channel's weather. The rain/storm look is a lot nicer than the boring sky blue look of world's weather.

looks to me that BBC World didn't got the memo that Rageh Omaar is now a part of the Al Jazeera English Newsteam...

BBC World will show Rageh Omaar's documentary about child slavery this month... a little bit late i think.

And the problem with that is?

There's nothing wrong with them showing the documentary, even if Rageh Omaar has left the BBC. Unless Al Jazeera have a golden handcuffs arrangement, he can still make programmes for the BBC, and they can still broadcast his programmes.

Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but this is on YouTube, and if it is indeed a recreation, then very well done to who did it.

Press Release

Audience up to 78 million per week.

BBC World News announces, at a European media briefing in London today, its key achievements from the past year and plans for the year ahead across its business, editorial and brand.
Over the 07/08 period, BBC World News has seen its global weekly TV audience increase to 78 million, up two million on the previous year; experienced over 20% growth in advertising sales revenues and enjoyed double digit overall revenue growth.

In Europe, BBC World News is now distributed in 87 million full-time households, an increase of 10% on the previous year, and European audiences watching the 24/7 news channel have increased by 50% over the past five years.

Additionally, the BBC's international-facing website, bbc.com, is now attracting 29 million unique users per month (eight million from Europe), with 50% visiting the news pages.

Moving forward, BBC World News, previously known as BBC World, is positioning itself as a tri-media news service, delivering international news and information across multiple platforms - TV, online and mobile.

Editorially, BBC World News is looking to deliver more live up-to-the-minute news reporting across a broader news agenda from its state-of-the-art tri-media studio in London. It will also focus on providing more in-depth news and debate, plus global and regional news, business and sports programming.

BBC World News remains committed to its business programming - essential viewing with the global economy currently at the forefront of many people's minds – with the launch of World News Today – Business Edition. Broadcast from London at 2100hrs GMT, the programme is presented by Tanya Beckett and carries live reports from London, New York and Singapore.

In July, a new World News Today programme with Mishal Husain will be launched. Broadcast at 1300hrs GMT, the programme will target the East Asia evening-peak audiences.

BBC World News will continue to deliver its core range of regular programmes including HARDtalk, Click, fast:track and The World Debate.

Weekends will focus on delivering topical lifestyle and documentary programming, including the best from the BBC and specially commissioned programmes to be broadcast exclusively on BBC World News.

A number of BBC programme seasons are also planned over the course of the year and will be shown across TV, radio and online.

These include Euro 2008 (June/July), Inside Olympics and My Games (August), and the US Elections (October/November).

Recently, the BBC World News brand replaced BBC World. The new name stems from audience research revealing BBC World News to be more effective in conveying the service's content, which over the years has moved towards its current focus of news and programming.

The new branding, to support the new name, is still based around a globe but has a lighter, more contemporary feel.

The names of cities from around the world revolve around the globe, reflecting the international scope of the channel's newsgathering, as well as the global scale of BBC World News' audience.

The look is sharp, unfussy, direct and fresh, and remains consistent with the branding across the UK and international BBC News portfolio. This enables one common identity, ensuring clarity within an increasingly crowded and competitive news market-place.

BBC World News is the BBC's most watched international channel and the strong reputation, for which BBC World News is renowned, continues to be high.

In a recent Media Brand Values Survey, business professionals across three continents (Asia, Europe and USA) placed the channel ahead of its competitors Bloomberg, CNBC and CNN in terms of trust and influence.

For goodness sake, why!? What is so wrong with just calling it Asia Today. There is far too many WNTs as it is. They may as well rename the channel BBC World News TODAY.

Asia Today as always at 1430gmt ISTR and initially followed an hour long broadcast of The World Today designed for Asia Pacific. The relaunch of specifically branded newshours is nothing different to the original TWTs I think. When it launched, BBC World carried lots of differently branded news programmes as well as standard "BBC World News". There was The World Today, Asia Today, BBC Newsday, Newshour ...

Tri-media?!

A phrase I first heard when BBC London launched - radio, TV, online... However the current official BBC description seems to be "multimedia".

The other common phrase you hear alongside Tri-media is 360° commissioning. This is where all programme makers are supposed to consider how their programme can use as many different multimedia platforms as possible at the commissioning stage.

The radio,tv,online still lives on with BBC Arabic. Some of their branding has Radio, Television, Internet written across the bottom.

What an incredible line-up. I am glad that Tanya's been given her own bulletin. She can handle news and biz with equal superbness.

With all these new World News Today programmes being launched, I find it all the more curious that they decided to drop The World Today in favour of just BBC World News. When you think about when WNT will now be airing: 1100 GMT, 1300GMT, 1600GMT, 1800GMT, 2100GMT, (2300GMT - World News America), 0200GMT. You've got bulletins that are no more than a few hours apart. And yet between 0200GMT and 1100GMT, only the normal half hour news bulletins. I would have thought at least 0500GMT would have been a pretty reasonable time to stick in a branded hour long broadcast, considering that's what they effectively already have.
