In all honesty, this sounds like the CNN-ising of BBC World, which has to be a very bad thing. I used to like CNN but I've switched off since it became so Americanised. What I can't fathom is why every single news broadcaster is now obsessed with Facebook and Twitter. Honestly, there's more to life than online social networking. CNN seems to be the worst with this online revolution and I really hope BBC World doesn't go the same way. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the channel still feels British next week and not American.
I'm sure BBC will keep to their traditions and come up with a change that most people will like. They're unlikely to go all CNN - they know too well what works and what doesn't. They've been well regarded for too long to go against their viewer's needs and wishes. Trust them!
I'm excited by the new graphics and studio. What about dedicated music for each of the programmes? Are any new David Lowe packages in the works? I hope so, just to give a unique identity to each programme, like colour schemes etc.
All in all, I'm both intrigued and excited to see these changes to the channel, which I'm sure will be further improved.
If BBC World News is the only channel getting a update to its look, how will overnights work. And if it isn't only BBC World News, will it affect only BBC WN and BBC NC or will it stretch to the Nations, Regions, National Bulletins, and the International Global News Channels?
Correct me if I'm wrong but, after a quick scan of the quoted press release I thought it was only the new programmes which were getting the new look? Not the whole channel?

and schedule, set to air on the channel from 1 February.
From how I read it, the new programmes are only part of the New Look, meaning the new look is channel wide.
In more trivial matters, this still of the WNT Business Edition opening sequence was inadvertently put on the screen during Jonathan Charles' shift today:

One would have to assume any 'new look' will still fit in with the uniform branding elsewhere within BBC News. Who's to say the News Channel will not follow suit later in the year?
I don't know what to make of those yet. They look a little cheap and Powerpoint 2007-like. Perhaps this will change. Let's hope they animate quite smartly.
If anything, I want World Business Report to get a completely new look. It sticks out like a sore thumb in terms of LN/BBC News branding. And the music, although good, has been used for years and years.

This all sounds to me like they're moving away from that big rebrand of 2008 - note how in both those caps and the news story they call them 'GMT' for example, not 'BBC GMT' or 'BBC News GMT' (clearly they'd both sound crap, but the Beeb was determined to put 'BBC' and 'News' in every title in 2008 it seemed. Also, the pinks don't really fit with the white, grey and red colour scheme do they?
In my opinion any change in graphics to WN would be stupid unless they also impacted the other BBC programmes, and if they change the whole package then it's pretty much accepting defeat, don't you agree?
