I also love the old set now, the background looks better, they changed the newsroom a bit. I didn't see any wide shots though.

Yes, I am liking it today as well ginny. The desk is (I think) a circular one, and not the oval one they used to have. (I could be wrong though as a true wide shot hasn't been used). They have also removed the red fly-strip from behind the anchor. Only the chrome bar remains. And a few added bits of red on the wall panels inside the "newsroom".

N9 is still presumably looking like it did last weekend whilst it played host to BBC London News ....

I think N8 would do well with a desk like that. It'd also be nice if they figured out a way for the presenter to sit at the left corner of the desk, so the Barcos could provide a background.

Why use a fake Barco background when you've got the real thing sitting right next to it?

I was thinking more along the lines of a graphical or skyline background.

Is there any reason why they're in N9 today?

Because N8 still needs the same maintenance it's always needed when News 24 was based there. How many times a year did N24 decamp to N6 or TC7 during the weekend back in the day?

BBC World News overtakes CNN in peak time in Europe
Date: 03.11.2009
For the first time, BBC World News peaktime audience has overtaken CNN’s across Europe, in both morning and evening slots.

The recent EMS survey, which monitors the media habits and attitudes of Europe's top earners and decision makers viewing BBC, shows that, in the morning slot from 6.00 am to 9.00 am, the average audience in that daypart viewing World News across Europe has risen by 24% year on year, from 51,000 to 63,000. CNN’s audience correspondingly has fallen year on year from 64,000 to 60,000.

In the evening slot, from 1900 hrs to 2200 hrs, BBC World News also overtook CNN’s average audience for that daypart. BBC World New’s audience rose by 47% year on year from 119,000 to 175,000, while CNN’s rose from 158,000 to 165,000.

Sian Kevill, Director, BBC World News, said, “This is a hugely significant gain for BBC World News and a terrific milestone in our relatively short life as a global news channel. We’ve shown solid growth since our launch, and more recently with the re-brand and continued refinement of our output. This proves that European audiences are now actively seeking our content at the most competitive time of day”

No one has ever answered my question, that if BBC World News is larger than CNN in terms of audience numbers. According to press releases I think it isn't.
