I just posted the same, interesting how the breakdown slide is from BBC One, with the BBC America logo instead.

Yep, you just beat me to it. Presumably there isn't anything in the BBC America graphics that loops for th breakdown slide

Shame it doesn't have the Jon Oliver voiced 'closed caption' trails on it

havign just watched some of the regional titles posted on here, what seems strange is that the BBC News America titles are exactly the same as those used in the regions... just with diffrent images behind them

it would be interesting to hear what the Americans think of this new look, as it is very European in its style.

The old ones looked very diffrent to anything else in the US, they've a whole diffrent style and way of doing things

This and the previous BBC looks are much simpler than what we have in the US on CNN/MSNBC/NBC/ABC/FOX/CBS, which cram everything possible onto the screen and use live images + video + computer graphics to make a presentation that's a bit overwhelming and unnecessary. I've always liked the way the BBC presents itself in comparison to the American news channels and I still do even with these new ones.

Gobsmacked by the way people have missed the point so comprehensively in the comments on this blog post:

Granted Porter's post is jargon-ridden and badly written, but even so...

What a mess. World News Today screened with the World News America headline bed.

The good news is that they have a better headline transition for WNA, so we'll probably see that replace that god awful cheap wipe that is in the main bulletins soon.

Good to see they got rid of the sound from the breakbumper - that was incredibly annoying. Now they just need to make it smaller, with black all around like the old days - it's way too busy to be full screen.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned what must be the biggest problem with the new countdown - the pips keep going even after the numbers reach 00:00

This has never happened before, and for good reason - it doesnt' make sense. It feels like they've just edited it out of sync, as the higher octave pips start on 07:00 as opposed to 10:00 as they usually do, which also made sense as it counted down the last 10 seconds. Now the numbers reach 00:00 and the pips keep going into the ident.

It's one thing to return to the WORLD circa 2003 countdown where the numbers stopped at 03 in order to allow the WORLD logo to come up, or the outgoing WORLD countdown, where the numbers and pips stopped at 00:00, but the music continued without them for a couple of bars for the logo. But the way they've done it currently just doesn't make sense.

And as the for the ident, hopefully these countdowns are indeed just stopgaps, and truly new ones will be shown soon. They ident at the end is obviously tacked on - it just fades in without any kind of transition. At least they could have used the way the old ones ended - with the red data streams filling the frame before crashing into the logo.

IMO the outgoing News 24 countdown had the best ending of any since they started, with its exciting p - p - p - p - p - p - as the streams filled the frame.

But for the perfect comparison of the past countdowns, you can't do better than my compilation Razz ***

a) does it matter?
b) how do you know it's not intentional?
c) how do you notice such minor things?

Don't forget that BBC World are still using their old gallery for their output (including WNA and WNT) and until they move to their newly refurbished gallery (that News 24 used) they may not be able to replicate some of the vision mixer effects now in use in the two domestic news studios - which have brand new vision mixers (not 11 year old ones)

Are you kidding me? What in the world are you doing in a forum like this if you're not going to get worked up over finicky details??!?!

And it isn't so minor, it's quite obvious actually as World News America has conspicuous use of piano ostinati in it's music, unlike everything else on WORLD. It was particularly obvious because World News America has a little 2 second sting at the start just before it cuts to the presenter.

Anyway, it's all about branding. The World News America music has a particular sonic signature that is attached to the program. That's what this is all about. Sorry if you missed it.

And that's a good point noggin, although I've been noticing from the caps people have uploaded that pretty much everything has better transition sequences for the headlines than the main bulletins, be they World News America, or even the regions. The rubbish wipe currently on World and News24 is worse than all the other variants. Check them out. It's not a qustion of techinical sophistication, just design.
