oh right, my mistake. They do use them, they just never used them yesterday morning.

Today BBC World News in the morning which simulcasts in the uk, was so messy. Reports not playing, too many papers being shuffled and you could hear doors being open and shut in the back.
And they also forgot to put that ad break during the news, so international people also heard the national news.
And on top of it, Martine Dennis kept saying "This morning", they should know, people who live in places like Australia watch it during the afternoon.

Too right MohammedHasanie - I've noticed the same, such a mess on the old World Today slot, Martine always saying 'This morning's headlines' etc, no consistancy with camera shots, sometimes they use boxes to throw between Sally and Martine and sometimes throw shots, I get the feeling different directors do things different ways but it just looks sloppy. I've lost count the amount of late fades on mics on the 30 past and 45 past headlines, really poor indeed. Considering The World Today used to be such a good programme BBC World News (5am-6am) just doesn't cut it.

yeah the World Today used to be a very organised program. I remember when they started, they used to be much better.

Also, the presenters have so many papers scattered around the desk, and they keep moving them around. It looks so messy, and sounds so annoying.

Just had my latest dose of BBC World, the overall style seems to have changed since I first watched 8 years ago seems to be a lot casual and less formal. There is much banter between the presenters etc. In my opinion is seems to have weakened it.

Interesting to see Mr. Dimbleby presenting HardTalk today.

On the subject of HT, I wonder why Stephen Sackur doesn't combine it with World Newscasting, just like Tim Sebastian used to do in the early days of HardTalk. Tim also anchored three hourly news bulletins, one major anchor-programme (BBC Newsdesk - I think it was called) AND present HardTalk as well................

Was it just my imagination or have they changed the font used on the world news today titles?

Good point, James. I don't recall the era of BBC World to which you are referring here, but I know since I started watching the channel (in c. 2000), the main presenter of HardTalk has never presented the news as well. I never saw Tim Sebastian present the news. What was he like?

LOL, Rob. He was a bit "grumpy" reading the news, just like he is on everything else he does!! I challenge anyone to find a clip anywhere of Tim Sebastian actually cracking a faint smile - he never does. LOL. Although, I must admit, I actually quite like his style of newscasting.

Someone at BBC World must be listening to us. All of a sudden, I have noted a lot more use of the world map backdrop during the last four days or so. It's very fitting for th channel.

Today I was watching, and they put a 51 second countdown!! It was amazing. I haven't seen a 51 second countdown for quite a few months.
Also, I quite like the Indian elections ident their using.

Yea I saw it too. I quiet like that India Election commercial. The BBC is really put efforts into making these promo good this year. I love the Intelligence Square, the Iran Season and now the one with "Cooking in the danger Zone, Asia,India,Middle East Business Reports, Nik Gowing' May 2009. I enjoy the music they are using and not the over size graphics and sound effects the other channels are using.

I enjoy this weekend coverage and like how no matter what program is being shown if there is a breaking news or live coverage they breakaway. A year a two ago that wouldn't happen. I am please with the channel commitment to news.

Yeah, I love the promo's for the next months.
The one they used in January was really good, and Febuary.
I prefer those over the May one, however they are all really good.
But I wish they had more programs lined up for each month. Right now, they just bring up 2 or 3 programs in the promo's. And they use the same programs quite often too, like the World Debate.
They should do it like CNN, where they have many programs.
