" The new name reflects our commitment to putting news first and follows research which revealed it better explained the content of the channel to you, our audience. "

Do they think we're so stupid that we need the word "news" to understand that BBCWorld is a news channel?
CNN International, AlJazeera, France 24, Russia Today, CCTV9, none of these has the word news in it.
And they should just stop with this putting-news-first-mania: the strength of the BBC is not the fact that it delivers the news before everyone else, rather the fact that it gives a better and clearer picture from an indipendent and trusted point of view.

Agreed. Which is why I said a few days ago that their 2001 slogan, 'Making Sense of it All' was 100 times better. God knows why they've changed the whole channel to 'BBC World News'. The BBC World brand has existed since 1995 and in one day, it's gone. They've basically undone years and years of building a reputation (in much the same way as News 24). It's not even as if it only features news and nothing else. What happens when programmes like Great Railway Journeys and Rough Science come back? They also showed Around The World In 80 Treasures recently. How do they announce these? "Now on BBC World News, Great Railway Journeys..."? It's horrendous.

Actually, that tagline doesn't mean what you think it does. "Putting News First" = "News is our top priority", rather than "First with the news"

Granted, it's a bit banal, but...

According to this, they basically plan to dump all their non-news-related programming.

I could live with the 'Putting News First' slogan if they actually lived up to it. However, they seldom break into pre-recorded programming to bring important breaking news. If an item breaks in a back half hour they don't usually mention it until the next bulletin. That isn't putting news first.

That's not true, if you read the entry carefully - it says that they will keep the non-news-related programming:

Quote:
We'll be keeping our most popular programme brands on the channel - Click, Fast Track, Our World, HARDtalk, and the rest.

All of which are shown on fkaN24 in the UK, rather than BBC1-4 (well, okay, Our World is shown on BBC2 as well , but it's very much a current affairs show), and so are News or Current Affairs.

I was referencing a post about "but what about when BBC World show stuff like Great Railway Journey, Rough Science and Around The World In 80 Treasures", all of which are very certainly not News or Current Affairs. They're not dumping pre-recorded shows completely, but they're dumping the popular documentaries, OU and entertainment stuff.

WNA went to the new look and music as well, and it looks like the studio might be a bit different, but I'm not sure about that. I've posted a youtube video of the recording I took, but as I just uploaded it it isn't available yet. I don't know how to post videos in here without using youtube as others have done so unless someone tells me how or directs me to a help link you'll have to wait for the video. It's basically just like the normal world news with images of the US behind the globe.

This video has the whole BBC America/BBC News branding package including several long animated holds (presumably used when they haven't hit the opt on time) and a breakdown slide

I like the way the new globe thing can animate on a loop, it's like Channel 4's looped '4' animation
