I don't get the criticism of the Singapore studio. Sure, the desk looks old, but the studio is so small that all you can ever really see is the single anchor shot of the window, which looks excellent. I don't think there's much else they can realistically do with that space.

Then they should move out to somewhere else.

Actually the Studio space is about 8 x 9m

Just saw Panorama: North Korea Uncovered on BBCWN, and there's actually nothing offensive there...
What's the point with LSE naming themselves in this documentary? Even the initials of the school aren't mentioned!

Is the Washington studio getting a new set? Seems dated with NC and new World sets...

I think Singapore could do with a new set/studio before Washington is updated.

The Singapore studio really needs a new set. The desk and the studio colour is clearly from the red and beige era, then the Washington one can follow if it will.

Its technically not a studio, but a converted corner office on the 12th floor of Shaw Tower, probably no bigger than 3m x 4m. Based on images i've seen of the offices in Shaw Tower, the biggest size set they could fit into one of the building's larger offices would probably be equivalent to N8's Pod.

The only way i think we are going to se any improvement is if they move to new offices, perhaps sharing with BBC Worldwide who currently have a separate office to the News Bureau in Singapore.

I would assume moving offices in Singapore will be far more expensive than converting the Washington Studio to HD and giving it a new set, so my money is on the BBC upgrading Washington first.

...right now a replica of Studio E with the Singapore Skyline as a backdrop is a fantastical pipe dream.

I understand the space restrictions of the Singapore studio and I wouldn't expect to see a studio E recreation in that space, but even just a lick of paint and a new desk would make that space look better than it currently does.

Come to think of it, where are all the desks, couches etc from Olympic Park, perhaps they could dress up Singapore to look like that?

I'm sure it's been mentioned that the desk that the NC had (the one shown) is going to be BBC London's when it moves to its new studio

That is one thing I am confused about - they fitted out various BBC News studios in a relatively short time (MT, Olympic Park, Salford Sports, BH News etc) yet they all have different designs of desk? Would they not forward plan so all desks are the same and a set wont be rendered 'out of date' within months?

They don't have that different designs - MT and Salford Sports have pretty much identical. Olympic Park UK Studio is basically an Oval Version of Studio B with an Oval MT/Sport Top. NBH Desks are all pretty much an evolution on the Salford/MT Design. In fact if anything the Studio B Desk is most out of place as the top is much more like the 2006-2008 Top.

In fact at current the desks are much more in sync than in the past two rebrands (1999-2003 was probably the most in sync they have ever been) But between 2003 and 2006 National, Breakfast, N24 and World all had different Desk styles. And between 2008 and 2013 NC, Regions, WS and Nationals all had a range of variations on the same design and WN had a different set of desks all together.

C and E are practically identical with only a few minor differences and A is a mixture between B and C/E.

I don't actually think they are too dissimilar. They've all used circular desk tops with black semi-transparent glass/plastic. The height adjustable one used at the Olympic Park is almost identical in style to the one in NBH Studio B.

The main differences are in the base of the desk, which are either brand specific (Sport) or functionally so ( Studio E) where they wanted the ability to have up to 4 people around the desk, but have movable modesty boards for other times.

MT's desk doesn't look dated.

EDIT: I didn't realise that the Olympic Park desk was oval, but no doubt that was due to space restrictions.

Sorry I meant A, C and E are totally different compared to Salford, MT etc.
