Nice little crash to an empty NC studio with a dust cover over the desk and cameras whizzing round...

Unusual to see Clive Myrie on World News. I'm assuming because there is a second presenter in London, Rico Hizon/Sharonjiyt Leyl won't be used tonight as Newsday branding appears to be missing. I'm surprised World News America isn't hosting the special simulcast.

The Washington studio doesn't have the ability to make complex standalone programmes. The World News America programmes are driven by Gallery C at NBH, who play in all the packages, etc. Washington is just a source into C.

Ah ok, makes sense. I remember though Katty Kay and Matt Frei were on air for about 6 hours non-stop back in 2008 for Super Tuesday during the primaries. It's still good to see that Washington was used though during the simulcast. Maybe the set up was different at TVC. Although I missed it, it was nice to have World News America on domestically as well. So is all World News America output passing through the gallery in NBH?

When World News America was shown on BBC America, and had a significantly larger budget as a result, the Washington studio was upgraded, more highly-staffed and was capable of doing more complex local production and presentation.

However AIUI the gallery and studio in Washington still always worked back to the BBC World News gallery in London even then - to allow London-edited material, graphics etc. to be played in, and Washington was still a source into BBC World News's gallery rather than running standalone.

Since BBC America dropped the bulletin, and the funding reduced as a result, the bulk of the production is now back in London.

Is the Washington studio getting a new set? Seems dated with NC and new World sets...

I think Singapore could do with a new set/studio before Washington is updated.

I agree, shouldn't Singapore get a bit more funding since Asia Business Report is now airing Worldwide & in the UK... plus Newsday? The studio and desk had been there since before 2000 or so... and I still remember the time that their background (the Singapore skyline) is still clear and not buildings and construction.

But speaking of Washington DC studio...

I like the blue lights on the studio, much more authority than plain white & red during BBC World News America...

I don't get the criticism of the Singapore studio. Sure, the desk looks old, but the studio is so small that all you can ever really see is the single anchor shot of the window, which looks excellent. I don't think there's much else they can realistically do with that space.

Then they should move out to somewhere else.

Yes - that would be an amazing use of money when the BBC has to reduce budgets by 20% to cope with the recent changes to its funding. (The BBC licence fee will now be funding BBC World Service Radio, S4C Welsh television etc.)

Just replace that hideous desk with something simple and it would be ok.

To be fair - it would be BBC Worldwide which would fund a new studio in Singapore or Washington - not the licence fee.

The Singapore studio really needs a new set. The desk and the studio colour is clearly from the red and beige era, then the Washington one can follow if it will.
