Watching the World News half hour on BBC Two. It really is incredibly unpolished. Yeah, the studio looks good, and the presenter is competent. But the programme doesn't flow! It has too many awquard pauses, music beds that aren't fired off quick enough to sound tight, etc.

Gotta be pragmatic here. This is a news bulletin, and automation is the way it is now. And that's fine. But 4 months after World moved into Broadcasting House, and Mosart STILL isn't either running right, or not understood and operated correctly? Come on guys. Need to up your game.

I think the awkward pauses are because BBC World News will opt-out to adverts and breakfillers, and the UK play second fiddle to this. They have to leave a considerable pause to allow everyone to opt out, and as the UK stays with BBC World News through the breaks, it'll seem a bit odd.

Is this half hour not tailored specifically for the UK???

Anyway, an opt out can be done in the space of 1 second. The opt time is second accurate, and the studio doesn't wait. You produce up to the opt, pause, and carry on. That's it. And anyway, World is much tighter as a production then the News Channel is. You could park a bus in the NC's gaps, and they're not opting out for anyone. (not including national bulletins)

Where has Geeta Guru-Murthy disappeared to? She hasn't done the 11.30am BBC Two simulcast for a while now...

^ I've responded to you in the Presenters/Rotas thread, not that I really have an answer to your question though.

I feel sorry for Rico Hizon right now... I just saw the first edition of Newsday & Asia Business Report on BBCWN, and the Singapore backdrop is almost pure black. Kinda strange though, since I'm in the Philippines and the sun already rose since 6:20am or so.

Well, Singapore is always used to be dark even if it's already 6 or 7am when watching at these times.

Does anyone know what keyboards WN use? I know they are Dell and wireless, black on top and has a wireless base. By the look of the stands they look quite cheap but good at the same time. ITV also use them.

I'm not entirely sure, but I thought they used Microsoft ones like this - http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-gb/p/wireless-keyboard-800

Oh! I was sure they were Dell ones as I saw it on a non-news programme and also Dell has a keyboard like it except it has that indicator bump at the top.

Were you the one asking where Sky buy their chairs from a few weeks ago...?

They use these:

They are the same as the ones they used in N6. We've had this set at home for a while, and the only problem with it is the rubber part of the scroll wheel wearing out.

Seemed to be a complete failure tonight on the lower thirds on WNT on BBC Four, no DOG, no astons, no Live bugs for at least the first 10 minutes I was watching.
