Oops. Opt error just now on World in my region. Cut across to a soundless Dani Sinha at the bottom of the hour. Rather than the one minute summary, we were treated to twenty odd seconds of Dani slouching across the desk, possibly yawning and stretching, laughing and scratching under her arm, before realising she was actually on air. They then cut away immediately in my region at least, and we crashed straight into Our World.
I was out the country this week, had the chance to watch BBC World News... What on earth is UK Reporters? It's totally pointless for the vast majority of worldwide viewers, surely only applying to expats? Bascially UK Today in the modern era. Not to mention the awful music and old style straps it uses?

They have the material and since the weekend gets incredibly repetitive after a while (I think they only have about six programmes) what's the harm? People tuning into the BBC expect a little more emphasis on British affairs and 30 minutes at a weekend is hardly overkill. The BBC World Service has (or possibly had) a similar programme.
I've not seen UK Reporters but I take it that it's a follow on from UK Report which launched in 2004? I often found that programme rather strange in that it was so UK-centric for an international audience. But then, when you consider that BBC World has had special programmes for Asia, Europe, Africa, USA and many more over the years, it doesn't seem quite so out of place. And CNN used to have a programme called American Edition - whether that still airs I don't know. Like sigma421 says, I think viewers probably expect BBC World to have a British focus much in the same way CNN has an American slant to everything.

It's kind of no different to the early days of BBC News 24 showing USA Direct. Most of it wasn't really relevant to a UK Audience but it helped fill airtime over night.

You could argue the same with ABC World News on the news channel too.

Here's an edition from 2011 for those of you who have not seen it. It's still using the exact same pres. now even though it's moved to BH.
Between 2100 and 2126, BBC World News had the BBC News Channel DOG and clock. But the ticker was the WN one, referencing bbc.com Back to normal at 2130.
Watching the World News half hour on BBC Two. It really is incredibly unpolished. Yeah, the studio looks good, and the presenter is competent. But the programme doesn't flow! It has too many awquard pauses, music beds that aren't fired off quick enough to sound tight, etc.
Gotta be pragmatic here. This is a news bulletin, and automation is the way it is now. And that's fine. But 4 months after World moved into Broadcasting House, and Mosart STILL isn't either running right, or not understood and operated correctly? Come on guys. Need to up your game.

I think it's all fine , it's a lot more polished than it was in n8 anyway!
