How often is that desk actually used at full height? The couple of times I've caught Newsnight recently it's been used in the 'coffee table' mode, and that's certainly how it seems to be treated on Impact and Global.

It's up for GMT, WHYS, WBR and the Afternoon programmes at 1700 and 1800

Newsnight use the desk in the lower position, but also seem to be able to use the computer inside it still, which none of the WN programmes do if the desk is in the lower position.

Newsnight presenters don't tend to use the computer though. World ones need it for breeaking news etc

Why is it BBC WN is so strict with their news bulletins ending at :26? Considering that the remaining 4 minutes are only adverts & breakfillers... mostly breakfillers.

.25 usually... and for exactly that reason, adverts. Every region airs adverts that relate to their region. While one region may not advertise as much, a breakfiller and channel promos are played out, usually breakfiller. World News isn't funded by the licence fee so relies on advertising. Someone please correct me if im wrong.

Many partners and rebroadcasters opt out on an automated systems, so chop away from the channel at 26.00 regardless of what is going on.

That's right ad slots are sold presumably so it has to be strict although Europe never seems to have that many ads but its better then say 12 years ago when you wouldn't see any but of course we were treated to that wonderful break filler of that era.

I see. Sometimes my region (Asia Pacific) have bad opt-outs from the bulletins at :26,
