BBC World News on Sky here in NZ is terrible quality still but the feed TV One use to play over night is fantastic quality, definitely looks HD

Does Sky NZ get BBC World's SD NTSC (29.blahblahblah fps) feed, opposed to NZ standard (25 fps as in PAL)?

Is there a 16:9 widescreen NTSC feed of BBC WN?

I just noticed that BBC WN is countering CNN International's "RTS News channel of the Year" promotion with their own... Laughing

The complete lack of any content, advertising, or time difference between the two would seem to suggest that both SKY and TVNZ are using the same feed of BBC World News.

Having seen BBC World News on both SKY and TVNZ, I can say that if an HD version exists, its quite likely that TVNZ are using it and SKY are most definitely not.

If the two are using the same feed (which would likely come from Optus D1), one possible reason for the significantly lower quality on SKY might be that SKY have a practice of reserving access to HD versions of channels for those subscribers who have My SKY HDi and an HD access ticket ,whereas TVNZ being a public broadcaster have no such restrictions and would therefore be more likely to use an HD version if available.

Unfortunately I don't have access to Sky in HD to confirm if BBC World News looks any better with SKY HD access.

Very much doubt it. Think there is a 50Hz 16:9 SD version available for downlink in most territories - not sure about the HD feed.

Of course the quality of the rebroadcast is dictated by the bitrate, resolution and encoder quality of the rebroadcaster.

It was shocking when they handed over to Lucy Hockings from GMT it's like their robot technology malfunctions from time to time.

Well in Europe Digiturk are the worst when it comes to rebroadcasting bbc world, the other 5 bbc worlds I get are all SD of course but done correctly, if bbc world news hd was to ever appear I suspect the Nordics to get it first.

Gremlins by the dozen this morning. Lack of sound. Failed graphics. False starts. Studio shots of empty seats. Rerunning of the main headline pictures sequence in the middle of the World Business Report start up. Albeit at a fast pace.

Hilarious moment from Aaron Heslehurst just now, expressing his frustration at the camera's slow pan towards the plasma displaying finance figures by throwing his arms out around its FOV and grunting "I'll just push! the! camera! over!".

Yep, saw that too. Rerunning these pictures fast and a quick look to the anchor desk position before WBR titles go on air.

Last night on GMT, Aaron was suppose to show market updates, but the plasmas are showing the Newspaper frontpage (which I suspect is for Newsnight because of the dark background)... he's getting animated, hitting the plasma with his paper script and saying "take those papers off!" but unfortunately, they just cannot put the figures on the screen at all...

kinks are still happening on BBC WN after 3 weeks in NBH, what is happening?
