I don't know why they bothered with a London part of the 1900 GMT World News Today this evening. Only the intro and two stories at the end in the running order were from BH with Lucy Hockings in DC with the rest of the bulletin.

They also mis-captioned Julian Worricker as Karin Giannone (at least they did on the News channel anyway) and then appeared to have trouble removing the WNT graphic from the screen.

Karin did the London side of WNT today so if a caption for her appeared it was probably correct.

Well it wasn't on the News channel as it was Julian Worricker but he was captioned as Karin Giannone.

Anybody else find it awkward at the end of Hardtalk where the presenter and guest just star at each other when the end credits roll? Especially when the guest isn't in the studio and they both just stare...

Are you referring to 'HARDstare' with Zeinab Badawi and friends?

Katy Kay has been on NBC's 'Meet the Press' this Sunday (see it on CNBC). She was a regular guest on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' during the election campaign. Seems highly regarded and deservedly so.

Is this a good thing that Washington is getting used a lot in recent weeks? Does this mean that more programming could come from Washington and Singapore?

Does Singapore have its own gallery? Would it be worth putting a gallery back in Washington?

She's almost exclusively NBC properties outside of the BBC. She's appeared on Meet The Press for eons, a longtime panelist on the Syndicated Chris Matthews Show and frequently is on Morning Joe (atleast once a week and fills in for Mika when she's off). I'm not sure what her status is at MSNBC and NBC - they used to say she was a contributor but they don't anymore (now it's just BBC's World News America's Katty Kay).

I'm tempted to think she's exclusive to them in the US as she doesn't pop up elsewhere. During her book tour she appeared on The Kelly File on Fox News and CBS This Morning but not ABC's Good Morning America (who her coauthor works for). It made me think that the people at MSNBC didn't want her to go onto a competitors highly rated morning program. I say this because when Mika Brzezinski (and for some reason Joe tags along) was promoting her book she appeared on Today (it was simulcast on Morning Joe) and CBS This Morning but not GMA. It's like they're not worried about a show that isn't close in the ratings to them but certainly won't let their talent on a show that's beating them. Hopefully you'll understand my logic.

You wonder if there's a chance she could be poached by them from the BBC...

I'd say she's underused at the moment - and overlooked a few times for the North America Editor job too!

Quite surprising really both the BBC and NBC allow her to work for each other - can't be many people in the US especially that work for two news networks. Guess it sums up how irrelevent BBC World News is deemed to be in the US.

That said though I guess Andrew Neil is the UK equivalent - for many years a regular political presenter on the BBC but seemed to turn up on ITV on election nights.

There are some political commentators that work for two networks. Ana Navarro, and until earlier this year, Donna Brazille work(ed) for both ABC and CNN. And while less mainstream, Charlie Rose still does his Bloomberg/PBS show as well as working for CBS

EDIT - The most high profile person working for two networks is probably Anderson Cooper who is a 60 minutes contributor as well as his CNN 'day job'

Either Anderson Cooper or Christiane Amanpour when she was in that awkward phase when she was back on CNN but still on ABC News and contractually limited to what she could do on each network. She and Sanjay Gupta have also been 60 Minutes contributors while being fulltime at CNN at different points.

Mark Halperin and John Heileman pop up everywhere too, though I really have no idea why anyone would want to put them on their network. Their show on Bloomberg is simulcast on MSNBC, they appear pretty regularly on Morning Joe, and they also pop up from time to time on CBS. John Heileman filled in for Norah O'Donnell on a few occasions this summer on CBS This Morning.

Surprisingly common then.

I wouldn't say it's common at all, it's just that it's not unprecedented. Katty Kay probably appeared as a guest a few times on Morning Joe (which is an ensemble show after all), and it went exceptionally well for all parties that she (and by 'she,' I mean her agent) finagled an agreement to appear on both networks. There are also probably stipulations about what she can and can't do on each one — like I wouldn't be surprised if her BBC contract barred her from appearing on MSNBC after a certain hour of the day. Morning Joe and Meet the Press aren't really competitors to anything the BBC offers in the US market, so it's fine for her to be on there, but the BBC probably wouldn't take too kindly to if she suddenly started appearing on Nightly News.
