The least they could do is update the desk, it's been around for 12 years or so! A NBH style desk would go a long way in improving its appearance.

The last major update to that set was in 2008, when Matt Frei was still doing the show. It seemed like a nice update at the time, though it's definitely looking tired now.

Aaron Heslehurst presented the 1000 BST bulletin this morning, although most of the first segment was a simulcast with the Victoria Derbyshire show to cover the Italy earthquake.

I kind of like the old studio - just remove the plasma. Too bad the view is fake.

I agree. I hope they do give the set a revamp as well. Another thing is would they have enough room at their hub in DC to rebuild it?

If they only had that set in their possession and had nowhere else to move in their building I would be thinking along the lines of a major refurbishment to make it look like the style of NBH would be sufficient. Another thing to look out for is what to place in the set & allocation of their budget.

How many Sq Metres is available in their current hub in DC compared to the one in Singapore?

I don't have the size of the Singapore bureau but I did a reverse image search of the studio and the contractor said it rebuilt the entire 12,000 sq ft.

All of this looks like more cost cutting. If Global is gone for good and WNT is done from DC, that means 2 shifts less. Having a dedicated presenter for just 30 minutes of WNT didnt make sense so DC taking over is ok but Global disaoppearing is quite surprising. Anyway with DC now doing more hours, I hope they finally revamp that set.

I imagine World News Today from DC made sense because they have a few "anchors" in use there. The main anchors are Katty Kay and Laura Trevelyan but Jane O'Brien is also in rotation often enough and a waste of her talent. She presented WNA and WNT today.

Is this is the current DC studio . . . I thought the background was plasma screens.

Nah, the set with the view of the Capitol was used ca. 2004-2008. The set you linked to is more or less the current setup, with some lighting differences.

I also quite liked their early 2000s set, it was a pretty effective emulation of the corporate look sets, with fairly believable "windows"

Speaking of which, I kind of miss the old New York broom cupboard:

I believe the BBC just has a DTL cam in New York currently. Does anyone know if its based in WNET, or is it elsewhere? I know the two organizations had a bit of an acrimonious change in circumstances a few years ago.

I tweeted one of their correspondents a while back about the NY facilities and they have an outdoor rooftop location and a DTL studio. I believe they are still at WNET.

Ah - the PacMan desk!

That studio was an existing, tiny, WNET multi-camera studio which the BBC effectively 'bought out' for World Business Report etc. It had ancient late 80s/early 90s 4:3 SD cameras (though was luckily SDI not NTSC composite), but the projection screen in it was HD, and fed from an HD camera on the roof of the building (or an HD D-VHS deck when a recording was needed. Yep - D-VHS...) This meant it still looked crisp in close-ups which only showed a part of the screen.

World Have Your Say also used the studio for presentation occasionally.

Might this just be a temporary, it's-August, not-much-news-happening-in-the-summer sort of thing?

It is-It's back on the 5th September

Any idea who does the sound on the evening edition (20:00 BST) of Business Live? it must be some template presentation issue, just now and happens almost every night the theme music just abruptly cuts out before the end, compared to the morning version, you just feel something is going to go wrong on the evening edition.

I'm curious does the Furio in studio C go behind the plasma presenter left like it heads towards the glass wall I'm studio E?
