Surprised it hasn't been mentioned, but World NUJ staff will be on strike on Thursday 1200 to Friday 1200 BST.

I support the strike but I'm wondering will non world NUJ cardholders cross the picket lines? There hasn't been any major news strike here in the US that would disrupt service and output in ages and the only national broadcast strike I can remember was the Writers Guild of America strike back in the late 2000s. If I recall correctly many members from other unions refused to cross the picket line or if they did they worked to the rule.

A bit messy on the News Channel - at 9am they were forced to take Victoria Derbyshire, so there was few minutes of interruption whilst they went through their headlines sequence, although after the titles they did head back to Pretoria pretty quickly. About ten minutes in though they did seem to get impatient and cut away again to talk about their top story, and get a summary of the day's other news, before then heading back to South Africa. It's good I suppose that they have actually made an effort, but surely it would have been better for the NC to show World News, whilst Victoria Derbyshire went out only on BBC Two, where they'd have the flexibility to look at other stories rather than stay on one judgement for over half an hour?

The right to strike is tightly controlled in the UK. During a strike, members of a union who are in dispute with their employer can refuse to work, but anyone else who chooses not to cross the picket line would be in breach of their contract.
I just had a dig through my email and found this message from my union regarding a BBC News strike which took place in 2006, with advice for third-party contractors working at the BBC: 'If you have to go to work in BBC TV Centre or Millbank then BECTU cannot ask you not to cross the picket line or we will be “inciting secondary industrial action”. You should go into work but only do your normal duties and do not do anything which could be seen as the work of those union members in BBC News who are on strike.'

Worth noting this could affect the NC on both Thursday and Friday with Outside Source, Newsday, the World overnight simulcast, WBR and Business Live all on during the strike.

First time i've caught World News Today in a while and surprised to see it being presented entirely from Washington by Laura Trevelyan.
Has it been presented from Washington for long? or is this just a one off?
EDIT: Harry beat me to it.

Strike preparations? Are the DC journalists members of the NUJ?
Slightly confused - is it midnight to midnight or noon to noon?
