Who is confused though? And where have they vented this confusion? As far as I'm aware, BBC news is one of the most widely respected and recognised news brands in the world.

Or are you concerned that there are times when reporters sometimes refer on air to "BBC World News" when it's on domestic services and sometimes just call it BBC news? That was actually a deliberate aim of renaming the domestic channel from News 24 some years ago. Programmes that refer to themselves as "BBC World News" are designed as such, so that the uk audience knows they're being simulcast. Programmes that don't make such a big deal about being incidentally internationally available refer to themselves as BBC News.

I think it's when we see those BBC World news history trailers that when it feels odd watching on BBC News Channel that's when I expect the UK story to be shown instead, noticed Outside Source are not doing the uk story anymore but this instead, it's even more odd considering BBC News went to the effort to change the OS screen to the BBC News logo.

The BBC WN countdown has been updated with the live the story slogan underneath the BBC World News logo, I think they have also corrected the red in the logo at the same time.

Looks like Studio B in use today, must be maintenance on Studio C this weekend.

Just happened to stumble across this on eBay, it's the old BBC World News raised desk used in the right side pod in N8 at TVC.

£6999.00 and the buyer won't even deliver it for you! The cheek of it.

I'll send an offer of £25.

When did the text on the Newsday headline summary change from a brown/gold colour to white? I preferred the old one!

Text on the over the shoulder graphics are white when in London, which includes the headline summary. But in Singapore they are the awful orange colour.

That looks really poor. If they just want to use text, just use a strap, and frame the shot properly. It's like they go out of their way to make things more complicated for a worse result.

That's

  completely

 unnecessary

I assume someone's just typed it in and let the system choose the font sizes - surely someone gets the opportunity to see what that looks like before it goes to air, though? Not only does it not add anything (and I'm not against over-the-shoulder graphics, but only when they actually add some level of detail or content to the presentation) but the massive 'the' is actually somewhat distracting. Why is Babita framed so far to the right, as well, if the text is going to be so heavily padded on either side? It's like they really wanted a talking background, but felt compelled to include the presenter in vision too. I just don't get it.

That background could also do with some more depth to it, too. For what's quite a nice background overall, it doesn't half look like Babita's standing in front of a painted wall. Not quite the intended effect I'm sure.

If they want just text, why not go for a straightforward strap? It would look loads better. This just looks poor.

It's like they make things over complicated for a worse effect.

I get the feeling it is there to justify the self-conscious offset framing of the shot in the first place, which has always looked bizarre. They appear to frame for The Shard in the background.

All of this is subjective but in my opinion, adopting this framing diminishes the importance of their presenter. Your presenter is your link to your audience - they are usually your 'star'. You need to make them look good and give them impact, and allow them to have a visual relationship with your audience (seeing eyes clearly is a key part of this)

You need a good reason to veer away from a reasonably tight, centred MS to MCU framing on a news presenter. In my opinion the same goes for on-shot camera movement, it needs a reason and motivation. Movement for movement's sake on presentation shots is, again, often a distraction.

Avoiding 'being boring' is a valid reason for mixing things up a bit now and again, but only if it is boring for the viewer, not the director... (Directors are paid to be bored...)

I get that they want presenters to stand, but it's weird they're standing by the desk. Move them somewhere, by a screen or something, and give them a bar table for their papers.

You're one ahead of me. I don't get why the presenters are standing at all when they aren't doing anything that they need to stand up for.

Newsday has quite often had bizarre presentation. Remember the odd presenters in two-screens wide shot with a camera in it (even though one of them was sitting or standing out of shot), and then the fake double-screen DVE boxes?

Now they have the odd double-wideshot establisher with keyed graphics and DVE spin. Just don't get why.

I suspect someone will argue it's added 'production' - and less 'boring'... I don't agree that it's either.

But then that's the great thing about subjective views - there are as many of them as there are individuals. Other people may love the current look.
