It sounds like they're just restarting the bed instead of dubbing the thunderclaps over it...
I think they've always restarted the bed instead of dubbing thunderclaps over it, but maybe they've got a version which has a small gap of silence at the start of the track. The version uploaded to David Lowe's site has a little bit of silence at the start, so if you manually restart it, it doesn't sound quite right.
Can anyone else hear the gap before each thunderclap? It's really distracting with my headphones on.

Though they seem to have an aversion to using regular a head and shoulders shot of Sopel. There's really no need to shove him out of 4:3 for the sake of displaying a massive 'Global' logo on the screen.
Love Global, lot of interesting discussions, images they use on screens are creative, orchestra music theme is unique and catchy plus a great presenter. Also this very light blue version of studio B looks the best imo.

Quite Amused with the laid back attitude of Jon Sopel, and doing some oddball adlibs.
By the way, When do you think David Lowe will update his website with new music?

So far, GOBAL is my favorite program. Very diversified, enjoyable and informative. Plus the best music IMO. And as ginnyfan said the studio lit in blue looks best.
I am tremendously delighted by the new BBC World News. I think Sky News is history for me.

I've had a look at my recording, I have to say it's a bit of a mish mash really, the countdown is nice and the countdown music is pretty good, the titles for the various shows is good, but I thought the music for Global wasnt very good and distinctive at all, the lower thirds could have been more imaginative, I don't like the fact that GMT for example the titles are Gil Sans, it becomes Helvetica in the lower thirds.
I like the way the titles disappear to leave the BBC World News logo, but there should have been a connecting transition between that and into the lower thirds, I feel they missed a trick here.
The logo itself seems to be many sizes, its now smaller in the main titles, the ident itself has the original size, the breakfiller is different and in one ad the logo was to the right, there's no consistancy whatsoever with the placement of the block logo, and its been pointed out that the letter spacing on the lower thirds BBC World News isnt quite right either and I agree with that.
The studios themselves are good, but because of the setup theres no way to see that they are broadcasting from the world's newsroom its just a lot of screens but with differing desks, it could have been a combination of the two maybe?
Not sure about IMPACT and its tiny little desk that Mishal uses, looks a bit odd but I can get used to that, also why wasn't there a copy of the graphics sent over to TVC as some bulletins are still coming from there, and BBC World News reverted to the old graphics when I watched it this morning.
It's a shame none of it is in HD either, despite it broadcasting from start of the art HD facilities.

I personally like the use of the London backdrop. It does at least give the channel a sense of place. I often found BBC World News a bit lifeless because, as an international channel, it never gave any sense of time of day or place, like a traditional domestic channel does (CNN International can feel the same as well).
Yes, I thought the same. I really don't like the London backdrop at all. Seems to be quite popular in Britain and has been talked up a bit in a few media pieces but I can't see any benefit to having such a localised backdrop on an international news channel. The image itself seems over-processed, artificial and has an uncomfortable purple tinge which clashes with the reds of the graphics.

I think the London backdrop is really nice. Just that the live newsroom backing they briefly had on yesterday was just stunning and looked quite real.

Sorry, no idea. My guess would be no - at least not until BBC Two HD launches.
I can answer this one, not likely to happen before Q4 this year. There is a capacity issue on a part of the iPlayer infrastructure, which I expect to be tech refreshed by then.
Probably not your area of expertise, but do you have any idea if HD versions of the World News bulletins from BBC Two and BBC Four will appear on BBC iPlayer. I know The Andrew Marr Show does not get a HD version
