Do they still use the breaking news sting?

Yes.

I think it has previously been pointed out that they run on a very tight staffing level.

True, it depends on staffing available but it does seem under used as studios go! As is Washington!

It feels like it's Newsday London and Newsday Singapore and it get mixed together at convenient times.

If I hadn't known better I'd swear that studio was N8.

Noticed on Newsday that London's catwalk screen has a default background with titles "NEWSDAY" and "London". But then when we get London presenter speaking with her Singapore counterpart, the catwalk screen in Singapore normally shows a background of flying words with "Hashtag" etc. Maybe they could have a similar matching "NEWDAY Singapore" there?

They do sometimes! It's been up there, it depends on when in the programme, Singapore does what's trending online after London does the paper review.

Ah I see, must've slipped past my observation. I'll look out for it next time.

While on the topic, I think Kasia Madera looks very good in the new Newsday format too.

It's fair to say Newsday is looking very different now!

Is it just me or are they making good use of the cameras in Singapore? The last bulletin uses the over the studio shot instead of the camera on the ground. Couldn't this shot be used for all the opening sequences?

Agreed! They all look good in the new setup but as it has been said many times the on screen banter between Rico Hizon and Babita Sharma is much less and harder to achieve.

I haven't watched much of ABR in the new studio but I think Aaron Heselhurst has been giving Rico some tips as he seems to be mimicking his style but using the set to his advantage, like in WBR.

By over the studio shot, do you mean the slight camera panning while it is filming at the catwalk? The shot during "Live from our studios in Singapore..."? I notice the opening is a bit random. Sometimes it opens with presenter in front of the window, sometimes with presenter in front of the catwalk. Might be that if the window view isn't great at the time, they switch to the catwalk version.

I wonder if they could do camera panning while closing up on a guest in speech. I don't presume they have those hugely expensive robotic cameras like NBH so any camera movement will probably need to be manually handled. But with camera panning while a guest talks, it takes away the fatigue of staring at the guest from a fixed angle.

I think Rico has always been like Aaron, the sort of 'hyperactive' presenter, just that with the free movement that the new studio allows, it unleashes that side of him a lot more.

There were a few glitches with Rico's autocue I noticed some days ago. I think he read the same headline twice and even read the word '[Headline]'. On closer look, Rico does hide the remote behind his papers. But once in a while if he presses the remote and aims it towards the camera, it feels like he is pointing a laser pointer at us.

I mean when they pan the studio during the opening sequence. London is always the same camera angle. I think it depends on the time of day as it goes out between 6-9am Singapore time so they use the catwalk when it's pitch black outside (which we didn't have any choice in the old studio) for some odd reason choose not to use the backdrop. And it doesn't really matter as the graphics aren't on the screen in Singapore, it's the over the shoulder ones used in the headlines at the BOTH.

It's possible they could but I don't know the set up in Singapore.

Maybe! Can you imagine them working together though on something like Buisness Live? I think they would be competing with each other for air time! The studio does allow Rico to explore his 'hyperactive' side. Maybe he asked for the upgrade?

Yeah he does seem to make it more obvious. I noticed Sharajiyt had it behind the papers and seemed to be alright although ditched the papers at the window. If he's reading stage directions, maybe he's caught the bug from Gavin Grey!

I know BBC cannot legally broadcast commercial services to the UK but is it illegal for a person who has appropriate equipment (dish pointed at 19.2°E to Astra 1KR and compatible receiver) to receive/watch such content (provided they pay their license fee)?

Astra 1KR's KuBand servicelooks to be able to reach the British Isles easily with a 50 CM dish.
