Just me who thinks Newsday would be better being hosted completely from Singapore? Both Rico and Sharanjit could present it from the studio.
But Babita is a fantastic presenter. Where would she go?
You'd still need a presenter in London in case there were technical difficulties in Singapore, and it's often easier to get guests (even at midnight) in London than in Singapore when there's major breaking news. I think probably there's something to be said for not alienating viewers outside Asia, either. Newsday is a clearly Asia-oriented programme, but having an English presenter in a London-backed studio still helps both viewers in the UK, but also in Europe and America, to recognise it as BBC World News rather than Asia News for those three hours.

It would lose its magic. I like the transitions between London and Singapore. The presenters usually have a good connection with each other. I wish it could be an hour long as it's the best WN programme.
The Singapore staffing is also pretty limited so Newsday is directed from London, with Singapore offering shots as required and vision mixing any local 1+1 items. Also of course, Sharanjit tends to present on the days Rico is off, so double heading would be impossible without them both working 5 days a week.
Yes but double heading from Singapore five nights a week would mean more presenting staff would be required. The bigger issue though is that it has to serve a breakfast audience in South East Asia without alienating North America and late night Europe (particularly the UK who get it from midnight on the news channel and after closedown on BBC One.)
On Newsday they brand everything completely as "BBC World News" with absolutely no reference to the NC. It's understandable that the primary audience is outside of the UK and therefore they use the international variants but the sport presenter made a reference to
Sport Today
"in half an hour", which is only broadcast on BBC World News so it makes me think whether presenters are told they are on the NC?
