This is true for the ABC & most of the FM commercial stations, but you'll find that the commercial talk stations (e.g. 3AW in Melbourne) will have a skeleton local service still
And the ABC is the designated emergency broadcaster, so you'll find that if there is a serious bushfire or other emergency, then it will become very local again very quickly.[/quote]
A real life example of this happening at the moment. Normally the local ABC stations would be taking the National sport program on a Saturday, but the Melbourne station has been running bushfire coverage all afternoon.
Has been a bad couple of days for bushfires in these parts, a big fire in the Adelaide Hills at present & a fire currently impacting parts of outer Melbourne - local residents have just been told it's too late to leave....

I think Australian local radio shuts down over the Christmas period and takes a national service. They did a couple of years ago when I listened for a bit.

All the BBC Studios have lightboxes that appear to be red. Studio B, C, D, E, Cardiff, Glasgow all have lightboxes that appear red when they are turned off.

Plus with Studio E the bottom lightbox is also red yet appears white, so it just shows you could do anything with Studio E as well.
That bottom 'lightbox' under the BARCOs in Studio B seems to be a backlit piece of heavily frosted glass/perspex rather than in the style of the other lightboxes
Except Studio E the red is on the studio panels themselves, but the other BH studios you could do all sorts i guess.

Well, a lot of the newsroom is painted red? And those red panels just outside the studio? Maybe that's what they meant.
Interesting. thanks DTV for the pics, didnt someone say though in Studio E there wasnt much you could do with the red, hence its always red.

No I mean the bits above the big screens, it's just a red panel which is different to studio b and c, I am sure someone on here said in studio e it can only be red.

I remember that in N6 the director turned it blue for a BBC Scotland bulletin on one occasion. Wonder if that is still possible or just looks poor?

When that set in N6 was built, it was designed to host a number of programmes, not just the national news, so was surely given more options to change colours. Studio E on the other hand is simply for national news so might not have the same capabilities.
