That's not true - they use wider shots for down the line interviews, they use other shots for guests, and they use the camera above the 'catwalk' to show the two presenters.

They light the whole studio on all programmes anyway, regardless of how much of the studio is being used bu the programme. While GMT is on the soft area is lit as GMT and while Impact is on the Desk Area is lit as Impact even though they don't use half the studio. The only time they are lit differently is when the occasionally do the 'coming up on Impact' at the end of GMT.

Take a look at this clip if you like, there show many angles of the yellow studio

Interesting that the whole studio is lit and branded for Newsday considering the only live shot from NBHC is the one shot of the anchor.

No the top camera is Live
The camera looking directly at the screens is a grab
I remembered there was quite a discussion about this sometime back, but I've forgotten the technicalities. It seems there's some limitation to having a live capture of the 2 side-by-side, so they have to resort to recording it earlier isn't it?
The camera above is, IIRC, a recorded shot with a key and keyframes being run to show the two presenters.

I don't really like that keyed in two screen shot used on Newsday it just looks not right really, and why is Newsday on for one hour on the bbc news channel ? It should just go out 11pm to 1pm on BBC World News, and then the regular bulletins overnights from 1am like it used to be, the Newsday titles need aligning as well with the live generated bbc news/bbc world news logos.

I would personally prefer it to go out in its original timeslot as I've always thought that what is often referred to as a News Channel for the whole world currently has no specialist programming between 0200 and 1200 yet from next Monday will have only one ordinary News Bulletin between 1200 and 0200. Its too European Time slotted schedule, on some areas BBC World News is really great like it's coverage of Asia and Africa (I still don't understand why the dropped 'Asia' from Impact as it was deemed to focus to much on Asia but then later introduced Focus on Africa) but on other points like Latin America and Australasia there is very little coverage and no specialist programming. I know the 'talent' presenters probably won't want to work overnight but the BBC could spread out it's branded coverage, CNN does it.
The Weekend Schedule also needs to be sorted out on BBC World News as you can't really call it a News Channel when less than 50% of the programming is not news.

Probably because 1am is still part of the Asian breakfast period which Newsday is aimed at. And as WN are paying for overnights, within reason, I suspect the branding/format they want is the branding/format which gets used

I don't really understand why the News Channel don't go half an hour later instead of randomly simulcasting half an hour of Newsday. I suppose the audience doesn't warrant the cost. Even a ten minute national bulletin followed by a rebroadcast of Newsnight?
At least it's better than CNN... to be honest at least they have live news at the top of the hour, even if just for 7 minutes.
