A few points to raise from that opening,
Martine Dennis is working on BBC World long enough to know that you're not supposed to make reference to the time of day as the program is being broadcast around the world so it's not 'Morning' everywhere.
The couple of other times I've seen this new opening, the business presenter walks off the set by turning to their right, where was Alice going by turning to her left?
The noise of the shoes is distracting when the anchor is reading the top story, Business presenter should remain in place until the first report is being played. I'm pretty sure that's how it's done upstairs in Studio E at the TOTH
Martine's morning term has become somewhat like a signature of her nowadays, I don't know why the producers didn't correct her. Maybe it gives some sense of identity from where the news is coming from or it just gives her an identity much like Nik Gowing's 'You're with BBC World News, with me Nik Gowing'. Then again, agree that global viewers will feel out of touch with the specific day reference.
Oh, thanks. A good capture.
Bit of a mess isn't it?
The titles so heavily signify "end of headlines - start of bulletin" by now - they need a different theme (shorter as well) that doesn't carry that grammatical baggage - that's less "final" - if they are going into further headlines.
The camera in shot for the opening wide off the titles is neither one thing nor the other. Looks like a mistake. Either feature it more so it looks like a statement or don't feature it.
The pictures on the business headline are screaming out to come full frame after initially appearing in the plasma. Either you want to show pictures or you don't - making them tiny on-screen doesn't help tell the story - it is just "we've got a swanky studio" posing.
The domestic Ten O'Clock News does the single-headline followed my multiple-headline thing much better.
Do agree there that it seems rather messy. I'm starting to think they should create another animation to accompany the secondary short music theme to give a more distinct transition. Probably they wouldn't want to repeat the first one, but two animations for an opening seems like an overkill, unless the second is a really brief one. Overall, didn't really see much attractiveness about this change. The previous style was quite elegant too. By having a single presenter on the news desk, it looks like a regular bulletin. On the other hand, someone mentioned the motivation for this is to go retro 'World Today' style. The one distinction I can see now is from the biz presenter where she gets a bit more focus.
