I think he might be Africa Editor for the World Service. Fergal Keane is BBC News' Africa Editor, isnt' he?

I think there are multiple jobs with the "Africa" and "Editor" in them

Fergal Keane is BBC News's "Africa Editor' (an on-screen senior correspondent role, akin to North America, Europe, China etc. Editors)

Will Ross is "BBC News Editor, Africa Region", which is I think more of a managing editor type role and skewed towards BBC World Service stuff?

Yes, I think that's the case, although I'm not sure how much 'managing' it involves. I sort of assume all these 'editor' roles, be it on TV or radio, are just fancy titles to placate egos etc, and really the 'editors' are just senior correspondents. There isn't that much editing involved.

I don’t know where to put this. Since I can’t find an overal general BBC regions thread I’d decided to put it here. Is there a BBC English Regions list available where it lists the population in each region either total or certain age. I want to get an idea of how they’d rank against each other akin to the DMAs in the US.

There is a third Africa Editor as well - Last night on Radio 4 Mary Harper was introduced as BBC's Africa Editor when talking about Eritrea.

12 days later

Will Ross and Mary Harper are BBC World Service Africa Editors based in NBH.

There are BBC World Service regional editors (two in each case) for East Asia, South Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe and The America’s (the latter covering Latin America) all permanently based in NBH.

It’s more of an analyst role than a correspondent.

Good move, she did impress during the abortion referendum recently. Surprisingly not from NI or Eire either, which gives it that added outsiders edge.

The BBC lacks a senior Turkey correspondent I think - Hugh Sykes has been sent there to cover this weekend's election.

The words 'BBC Region Population' into Google found this

10 years old, but good enough I'd say

The data on page 6 of the pdf http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/01_12_08_changinguk.pdf linked to on that site is useful.

Top 5 BBC English regions or Nations by population in 2006 :

BBC London population = 11.5m
BBC North West population = 6.8m
BBC Midlands population = 6m
BBC Scotland population = 5.1m
BBC South = 4.8m

NB this doesn't include the BBC Leeds/BBC Hull operations as separate regions.
