One departee from the BBC that seems to have gone unmentioned is Gavin Hewitt, who was the Chief Correspondent.

Has he gone? I didn't realise. Is he going to work somewhere else or has he just left the BBC to write books or something?

Possibly retired, (if Wiki is to be believed) he's 67 this month.

It seems Nick Higham will be leaving the BBC.

If that's the case then it's a big shame. He's been with the BBC for many years and it's always Nick's voice I expect to hear for obits, especially for well known figures in Entertainment.

A lot of obituaries are going to have to be re-recorded now.

That has always been the case hasn't it?

I think I recall someone leaving the obit team a while back. Wasn't clear whether the post was removed at the same time. It was a producer type post I think.

Nick H is 64 in June (Wiki) so his departure isn't that surprising.

I imagine they'll just keep them, unless he's going to a different broadcaster. If he's retiring, there's not really a need to revoice the obits. In newspapers, some obituaries are published long after the writer has died.

The problem comes when they need to add to the obituary when the person dies as its a lot harder to disguise different voices than it is to disguise a different person writing part of a piece.

If you were doing that you'd re-voice the whole obit. News usually edit with VO on a separate track still - so that's actually not to tricky to do.
