No, Alastair has left his Los Angeles post and is now Africa Correspondent based in Nairobi alongside Andrew Harding (based in Johannesburg). Alastair replaces Tom Burridge who was based in Nairobi for 3 months.
BBC Scotland's James Cook is to become Alastair's replacement for Los Angeles correspondent soon.

The correspondent post in Nairobi has actually been vacant for three months. Previously Ed Thomas had a 3 month posting there, and before that Tom Burridge. The previous full time correspondent there was Gabriel Gatehouse.

From her Twitter it seems she was attending the CarFest event, so was presumably on site when the incident took place.

Yes, she was there for her own pleasure and so when it happened she was well placed to report on it. I'm reminded of when Jonny Saunders the sports reporter did the Beeb's initial reports on a train crash a decade or so ago, because he was actually on the train when it crashed.
