New look for Dateline London

New Dateline pres felt a bit pointless in the end, although glad they've retained the music.

Blimey. This place can be quite dispiriting sometimes. People moan because a programme or channel has had the same look for more than a few years, people also moan when an update occurs. I think personally this refresh strikes the perfect balance between updating the look and retaining the feel of the show which is one of the last vestiges of the original News 24 (though had it started on BBC World?)

It's gotta be one of the longest running theme tunes in news, right?

No. Channel 4 News has had the same theme since 1983, and ITV News's theme is a remix of the theme ITV News At Ten has used since it launched in 1967. Dateline London's theme only dates from the late 90s, it's only a couple of years older than the current BBC News theme.

That's a pretty liberal interpretation of the "same" theme.

None of those examples are identical to today, which is what Rolling News is getting at. I'm sure there are international examples though that are older.

Precisely. I also said it's ONE OF the oldest, not THE oldest.

Well, it is a forum.

On the specific point though, I do think the concept of Dateline London (or the other versions which have existed at moments) could be taken a bit further. Having some rather cheap and cheerful titles with a massive iPad symbol doesn't really capture the point of Dateline, for me.

Having a weekly debate with foreign correspondents, on quite a wide range of topics, from different agencies, is a real asset.

The domestic News at Ten was delayed by 10 minutes and on BBC One only, so The Papers began on both NC and World at 2230.

Is there a BOTH headline summary on World at half past 10 since The Papers comes from C?

Yes. Normally, a summary of news at 22:30 until the news channel joins World at the end of the 10 o' clock News (around 22:33).

I noticed that the 7 pm bulletin is beginning to feel like a standard edition of BBC World News / World News Today
