Isn't BBC London based out of the Peel wing? Same complex of course so if that studio has any problems it's worth having D spare. Ditto the Arabic- and Persian-language services apparently in that same wing. Especially with B gone, it probably makes sense to keep one studio spare for literally whoever might need it.

Also if the whole complex went down they also have a Westminster Studio 3.5 miles away

Part of normal simulcast time, World probably wouldn't have showed it if they weren't simulcasting, the two channels have diverged now

There's an informal agreement that BBC News UK produces the 10am hour for world, and BBC World News produces Outside Source and the 11pm hour for BBC News UK. This is a permanent decision due to budget cuts. Pre covid were 7pm & 9pm, so simulcasting has only increased by 90 mins a day overall,

Isn’t Studio E lights and stuff on at this hour or is it used to clean Studio E? I can’t imagine it saves much money at all surely?

Yes but staff also need breaks as well and with reduced numbers of people in the building sharing output allows staff to have their breaks without having to backfill

BBC London was based out of the Peel Wing (Stage 1) when it was coming from what is now The One Show studio. Studio D was constructed as part of Stage 2 and at ground level would be where the revolving doors are. But it is listed on plans as the 'resilient fixed rig studio' which I've always assumed to mean that it is part of a different circuit to the other basement studios.

Bbc world news just showed the uk shadow chancellors speech how is this relevant to bbc world news viewers?

Didn't BBC World News also show Boris Johnson's lockdown easing 'roadmap' press conference, fronted by Huw Edwards, in full last Monday as well?

What on earth was the point in that? No relevance to anyone outside the UK at all. Ok, World could take reports on it, but to broadcast the entire thing live instead of OS was crazy.

Yes, BBC World News showed it, but it wasn't the same bulletin as BBC News/BBC One with Huw Edwards. They showed it inside their own separate bulletin.

Studio D (and it’s gallery) are in different fire zones within the building, so can, in some circumstances, still be used should the rest of the building be evacuated.

France 24 broadcast all of Macron’s equivalent speeches. It’s not as bad as Sky News bizarrely broadcasting the New York mayor’s addresses early in the pandemic most days.

That's what the NC ticker says, whilst it broadcasts a Budget discussion!

It'll be interesting to see what happens at 1pm as it's advertised as "BBC News" until 14:00 on the EPG, so presumably the NC will link up with World?

Probably, if the inquiry goes on a break break between 1-1:30 I don’t believe it intends to though. I imagine that would be tricky to do as world is not showing the inquiry so it would look strange if news channel crashed into world and they were talking about a completely different story.
