I decided to make some montage videos of BBC World News America, BBC World News (0400 GMT), and GMT that aired on public television here in the US. The first two were recorded on 15 February (if you want to get technical the BBC World News was produced on Friday 16 February) and GMT was recorded on 16 February.

You'll notice that they use an outdated countdown, some elements are still in SD and an annoying Aruba Tourism commercial that aired before and after each program (after the first playing I edited it to fast forward through the ad).

The video is still cooking cooked.

The countdown is from 2013 when BBC News moved into Broadcasting House. It’s been updated since then.

The 2013 one didn't have the LIVE THE STORY tagline

They just played the later part of the titles (with the Mishal V/O) and went straight to the presenters. They've gone flat out on the Trump-Kim Jong Un meeting, so I guess it would have been pointless to do the headlines.

They always do that if presentation isn't being shared from Singapore and London, either because one is closed or one of them is in another location like Washington for example.

Some interesting stuff I've noticed when I watch BBC World News during NC simulcasts. During the mid-sting in main bulletins, Red Bee Media seems to have "fast forwarded" studio C's feed by 1 second. The fast forward point can be seen at 00:21 (during the globe animation). After "This Week in History" finishes playing, Red Bee rewinds studio C's feed by 1 second again just before the BGM plays, in order to have its output sync with the NC.

The fast forwarding thing seems to be implemented recently, as I recall from a month ago the fast forwarding thing haven't existed.

Could it be that Red Bee opted when the director said opt out. Ads still run if you get the breakfiller on your World feed. There also was a brief globe animation sting. Did anyone time the TWIH to see if it's the same duration? I can't right now.

Or they are using hardware TimeTailorlike to drop frames with no noticeable effect to the average viewer.

World Pres aren’t doing any clever timing things to get in synch with the news studio - there are some timing issues with new arrangements between BH and Pres which haven’t been fully ironed out. Remember, viewers generally only see one or the other of these outputs and aren’t comparing them side by side generally!!

I wonder if that is a switching thing. The new 'Channel in a Box' Morpheus ICE system that Red Bee have introduced (and which does vision mixing, graphics, DVEs etc. internally - I believe in the IP domain) has significant internal delays in it, compared to the old system of having an HD-SDI vision mixer controlled by automation.
