Seems the BBC is short staffed, as they’ve asked Martin Stanford to present a world news bulletin. Don’t think i have ever seen him present for the BBC before and he’s listed as a freelance presenter on his twitter feed. Confused

EXIT; Crosspost from the rota thread to avoid too much unnecessary discussion over on that thread.

Martin has hosted BBC Local Radio shows (Radio Berkshire for example) in the last couple of years, and prior to joining BSB then Sky was a regular on BBC Local Radio and South Today on TV (in the 80s!)

He's also filled in on LBC over Christmas the last couple of years.

A reminder that from Sunday, time zone craziness resumes on BBC World News, many changes for one week only until North America changes their clocks.

On weekdays, the following applies:
8am UK: shows what is normally on at 9am. (1 week only)

9am: regular World News bulletin (1 week only)

5:30/6:30pm Focus on Africa / World Business Report swap slots until end of March

8pm: Outside Source (1st edition - as normal)

9pm: World News America (instead of 10pm UK - one week only)

10pm: Outside Source (2nd edition - one week only)

10:30pm: Asia Business Report and Sport Today (starting before the first edition of Newsday - one week only)

11pm: Newsday (as normal)

Meaning that next Week, The News Channel won't take Outside Source but will instead carry the 2nd half of World News America at 9:30 as what seems to happen when the clock change happens.

Have noticed that while Mike Embley is still presenting the usual weekday evening shift on BBC World, it's been a litany of various other presenters for the overnight shift on weekends, mostly Lewis-Vaughn Jones (for those who remember, he was from ITV) and some others, but not very consistent. Anyone know where Nkem Ifejika has disappeared to, as he normally did the overnight shift on weekends? Always loved to hear his voice presenting the evening simulcast on the News Channel in the UK.

The weekend overnights have had high presenter turnover for a number of years so for whatever reason it is clearly a shift that no one wants. Since Daniela Ritorto only a few years ago it seemed to be Lebo DIseko then Gavin Grey then Tom Donkin or Reged Ahmad then Duncan Golestani then Nkem and is now mostly Lewis.

I timed BBC World News using the accurate USNO master clock that you can call on the telephone. The BBC WN feed was 13 seconds off from the USNO clock at midnight. I’m wondering is this a transmission issue and how is BBC WN North American feed unlinked? Is it fibered across the Atlantic, go through standards conversion, uplinked for distribution to headends, where it’s converted to their standard and sent to the viewer? So would 13 seconds seem appropriate?

Probably yes. BBC News HD on DTT is about 7 or 8 seconds behind real time on a far less convoluted route

New business show coming next week during Global called Global Business.

As shown in the schedule grid posted on this thread on 26th October.

There's also a new business show to replace Africa Business Report from the 2nd week in 2019.

The changes to business mask a cut in sport - from two evening bulletins (18:45 & 21:40) to one 22 minute slot at 20:30 GMT followed by a five minute feature. The former WBR/World Sport slot at 18:30 GMT is used for HARDtalk; World viewers will now see the full 21:00 GMT hour of Outside Source again.

World Business Report is now one bulletin away from the axe.

AND what seems to be a replacing India Business Report, which was cancelled a while ago:

Quote:
The BBC is launching a brand new business programme which will broadcast from the BBC’s Delhi bureau and air on both BBC World Service English (radio) and BBC World News (TV).

Starting 9 November in the prime-time slot of 9pm IST, WorklifeIndia will be a half-hour weekly programme providing real-time conversations on the realities of modern life.

Anchored from the Delhi studio, specially adapted for TV and radio, and presented by Divya Arya and Devina Gupta, it will tackle issues around money, work, family, business and finance for both a South Asian audience and global audience. Whether it’s discussing women in the workplace, schooling, starting a business, technology, or creativity, the show will be informative, revealing, personal and above all relevant. The aim is to offer a positive understanding of the changing factors that shape all our lives. The programme will then go daily in Spring 2019, and will also be available as a podcast.
