The male co-presenter alongside Martine Dennis is, in fact, Bill Turnbull, Dan. Usually The World Today was presented by Martine with Tanya Beckett but that particular example comes from one of the days immediately following 9/11. For the rest of that week, Tanya was sidelined in favour of a News 24 presenter.

FYI, the presenter in the second picture is Anita McNaught.

You know, I thought it looked a bit like Bill Turnbull but couldn't put my finger on it!! How very strange!! Thankyou.

No worries, Dan. I *think* Martine and Bill presented the first edition after 9/11 on the Wednesday morning, Thursday was Martine (Dennis) with Martine Croxall and I think Friday was Lindsey Brancher with Martine Croxall.

Thanks for those, Dan. A few points:

Lindsey Brancher - I really miss her on BBC World. She was a very competent presenter and one of the longest serving on the channel, as I recall.

The TWT Special theme music in the first video brings back some memories. That music package had only been introduced about 10 days or so before 9/11 and I thought the special music was absolutely perfect for what unfolded that day. The only special/sombre music to rival it, in my opinion, is the BBC World special theme from the last flags era (1997-2000).

The 10 second World countdown!! I always thought it hilarious that the 10 second countdown counted down to the BBC World channel ident rather than the TOTH. It was the news headline bed that marked the TOTH, not the ident. Understandably, it was dropped in 2001 and replaced with a 60-second countdown that used the last minute of the then current News 24 countdown music. The 10-second countdown had some great music, though. Seeing all of those various David Lowe themes in the videos reminds me of how rubbish his current themes are in comparison. In my opinion, he has never bettered his BBC World 2000-2003 music.

Thanks for finding that 9/12 clip, it sure brings back memories. This is when I first started watching news channels as a kid and now I remember always thinking how modern BBC's set, newsroom, music and overall look was compared to CNN and Sky. It just always struck me when I tuned into it after CNN or Sky.

It's a shame Singapore don't have a better studio, no less because it is so dark outside there!

Me too, James! I really liked the presenter line up a decade ago - although Lyse, Martine Dennis and Nik Gowing are still there, I do miss the likes of Anita, Adrian Finighan, Philip Hayton, Nisha Pillai, Keshini Navaratnam, Stephen Cole, Lindsay Brancher and David Jessel. What a great team that was Crying or Very sad

The Duchess of the Deadline, Her Highness of the Headline has turned up anchoring live from Damascus. Its always quality stuff when Lyse Doucet is on location, and the live interview with that fiesty and fiery government spokeswoman was good tv indeed. What a bizarre set though.

And well done to near colleague Sue Lloyd Roberts on winning an Emmy on behalf of BBC World News!

on World just now. Tanya Beckett came out of the coverage of the Michael Jackson court case, a live with a reporter failed so she went to a break. Ident plugged WBR then straight back to Tanya who didn't realise she was on air for a good 30 seconds or so.

I noticed BBC WN has a new ident based on the BBC News titles. Can anyone cap it?

They have a new ident slide and sting which randomly pops up for no reason in the midst of breakfillers. I noticed that it also bears a pale grey date watermark in the bottom right hand side of the screen. You need to look very closely for the date. It's MMX, for some bizarre reason.

We are now in MMXI surely?

I liked the World News ident, much more than the BBC News titles

Here's hoping it's not a disaster. Caps please if anyone has the time.
