Sport Today has just been voiced-in as "World Business Report" by the pre-recorded CA.

As we talk on the News Channel forum about studio-related annoyances, this is BBC World News a few minutes ago:

Dear oh dear!

That is bad...

One more thing that I dislike about N8 - the double headed shots where the presenters look like they're miles away like this one:

*

It looks far better like this, and the backdrop has so much more colour and detail in it - wish they'd use that as the backdrop for single shots as well.

I never ever understood this arrangement. I remember the guest would sit inbetween the two presenters. What?!

Ah yes, that was rather strange. If I recall correctly, that desk was introduced in late August 2001. I visited the BBC and saw that desk in early September just after it had been installed and I remember thinking it was absolutely bizarre. I think it was designed for the re-launch of The World Today. Before that they had a proper desk without the hole in the middle. You're right about studio guests - they used to sit in between. It was a very, very tight squeeze behind there. The main access was through a gate in the railings between the two presenters!

I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but the graphics seen in this video do seem a bit of a waste just for a promo. The blue accent colour could change to orange for Asia for example...

Those graphics look excellent, and not bland at all, unlike most of the BBC News graphic output. Fingers crossed. Perhaps the powers that be might see our logic in this. *HINT*

They would be perfect. I'd like to see this sort of evolution if they are planning on tweeking the graphics in BH. Like now, but with added elements and more complexity.

Have to agree, would look great as new business graphics! On the same lines, this video below came up linking from that, and I would love to know if these 'blue' titles ever were used? They look ever so nice.

They were used for a while, Greg. I think they were discontinued earlier this year.

Greg - they seem more grey than blue.

I actually loved that set and desk. Clearly it was not made for double anchoring and suited BBC World's schedule and presenting style of that decade.

Who is the male co-presenter alongside the lady who I believe is Martine Dennis in that picture?

Here is the same desk but from another angle:

The male co-presenter alongside Martine Dennis is, in fact, Bill Turnbull, Dan. Usually The World Today was presented by Martine with Tanya Beckett but that particular example comes from one of the days immediately following 9/11. For the rest of that week, Tanya was sidelined in favour of a News 24 presenter.

FYI, the presenter in the second picture is Anita McNaught.

You know, I thought it looked a bit like Bill Turnbull but couldn't put my finger on it!! How very strange!! Thankyou.
