No worse than some of the female presenters seeming to think they can turn up in just some trousers and a Tshirt to present the news, that is what is bad and needs to be addressed, if the male presenters are to wear a suit - the female presenters should do as well... simple, fair and far from the sexist scenario we have at the moment.
As one of the BBC World anchors confirmed to me directly, Tim's jeans were actually very smart and admired in the newsroom! LOL. I guess this ranks up there amongst the "who cares" syndrome. "Golly Gosh - a man wore jeans at the BBC!"
Even in that side shot above in his jeans, Tim still looks seriously dapper. Don't deny it guys. (Thumbs up!)
Mores to the point, with regard to those graphics above, I assume those were taken from Asia Business Report? It does - in my mind - remind me that the business output does need some acoustic and visual refreshment. Apart from the visual inconsistencies that exist across the output, if I am not mistaken, WBR hasn't had a graphics or title makeover for zillions of years. The theme music bears no resemblence to the current BBC News music, whilst it did (slightly) appear to be a variation on some of the overtones of the last BBC World flags era themes. One wonders why it hasn't been modified in ten or more years to align it more with the current Lowe suite. Same for Sport Today actually.
Not that it's necessarily a perfect example, but all CNN music does contain the underlying elements of the CNN Anchor Theme. Even the weather breakfiller music is intertwined with it.

We really sound like broken records discussing the complete incontinuity of business output. I suppose we'll still be talking about this in years to come.
It's stale. It needs completely refreshed. Just having the business presenter standing up with as clicker does not constitute an overhaul!
CNN runs no less than three full hour-long programmes per day dedicated entirely to business which, given the current global scenario, is wholly justifed. This is in addition to business updates during all other programmes.
BBC World has the World Business Report, which is now curtailed to ten minutes or less.
And I had to listen to Lord Chris Patten on HardTalk the other day trying to defend cuts and yet still living with the impression that his BBC is the best in the business when it comes to Global News and Business Coverage????
I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but the graphics seen in this video do seem a bit of a waste just for a promo. The blue accent colour could change to orange for Asia for example...

Hmmmpgh.
The World Business Report music is 14 years old this year; it was first introduced in 1997 and you're right, it was consistent with the general BBC World theme music during that era. However, I actually like the fact that the BBC has stuck with it for so long. It's an excellent and instantly recognisable theme and I'm glad that they haven't replaced it with yet another fairly dull David Lowe theme. It has character, which cannot be said of Lowe's themes in recent years. There's always been a culture of changing things for the sake of it at the BBC - particularly BBC World - so it's refreshing for one programme at least to survive intact. The only other BBC World theme music that has lasted a long time is Asia Today. That theme was introduced in c. 2000 if I recall correctly. However, I'm not sure whether AT still airs on BBC World any more. I haven't seen it on the European feed for a while. Again, it's a distinctive theme tune.
James, I'm not entirely sure your comparison of BBC World and CNN vis-à-vis business news is entirely fair. Taking today's BBC World schedule (from 0000 BST to 2359 BST), there has been a total of 3 hours and 15 minutes of World and Asia Business Reports. Granted, the CNN business programmes are longer and can go into greater depth but I find that any important business news makes it into BBC World News bulletins anyway. WBR is more a wrap up of the day's other business news really. What's more, as previously noted in the CNN thread, CNN is completely neglecting the main news of late, with increased amounts of US simulcasts and repeated shows. In some cases one has to wait a shocking 4 hours for a full news bulletin. I'd argue that's a more dire situation than BBC World and business news.
Had to have a little chuckle about Justin Rowlatt's pronunciation of 'Rico Hizon' on Weekend World. I think it was Rico High-zun. Come on, how do you not know this legend of a business presenter?!

Those graphics look excellent, and not bland at all, unlike most of the BBC News graphic output. Fingers crossed. Perhaps the powers that be might see our logic in this. *HINT*
They would be perfect. I'd like to see this sort of evolution if they are planning on tweeking the graphics in BH. Like now, but with added elements and more complexity.
Not unusual for presenters to wear jeans when they think they will be behind a desk all day... Sometimes a surprise when they then have to present from a position where you can see their legs.
A number of News 24 presenters came unstuck during the summer months in the era of the sofa set. They'd come in wearing shorts with their smart jackets (the air con wasn't always the best...) but then have a scramble to find some suitable smart trousers - and change into them quickly if an item was planned for the sofa...
No alas funding didn't allow us to have 'switchable' galleries, but they will all be kitted out in the same way - with the same layout - so it will be easier for staff to 'rotate' round and they can be flexed up - to a full gallery operation - or flexed down - to a minimal staffing model, which is something that is almost impossible now.
Oh that's a shame. I seem to remember someone on here (I think maybe Noggin?) saying a year or two back that he'd expect any modern broadcasting centre to have 'switchable' galleries.
Indeed I did... I still would...
It's definitely a missed opportunity and one which only comes along every decade or two - but with the current funding at the BBC I can entirely understand why it hasn't been implemented. It is more expensive (the switching costs money), and if you aren't going to massively vary the staffing levels between shows it doesn't make so much sense.
Most other broadcasters are going down the separate studio and gallery route (notably Sky at Harlequin 1) as it allows for resilience and flexibility.
