I know its been mentioned already that Newsday is coming from N6 overnight at the moment... is there any reason why it is, is it something that's temporary or permanent.

Just for the week I believe. Something about maintenance?

Yes, I believe they're planning on removing the desk in N8 so that the presenters have to stand by the Barco all the time. However, it also entails work on the router which ensures it'll never be seen on the News Channel ever again.

I think they're doing some electrical safety testing too.

Really? So how will all the shows GMT, WNT, IMPACT, and THE HUB manage? Especially with in studio guests and back drops. I always felt because these shows are "signature programs" that's why the anchor sat at the desk. Why will they want the anchors to stand by the Barco "all the time"?
What will be in the open space then?

Seriously? That was sarcasm dear..

The desk is going nowhere, except perhaps a few inches to the left or right.

Who did The World Today slot this morning folks? I see we now have Tim on from 8am LON.

Is Singapore really the best place to be though? CNN base their Asian hub in Hong Kong while Al Jazeera were up to recently in Kuala Lumpar, Maybe they should consider moving. Beijing would be a very interesting back drop

Perhaps, but the Chinese government isn't known for being especially accomodating to independent foreign news organizations. I imagine that if major political unrest happened in China, the government would be very quick to shut down or at least severely curtail the BBC's operations there. (They eventually shut down all satellite uplinks during the Tiananmen protests and crackdown in 1989.) That's why I don't think that Beijing would be the right choice for an Asian hub. (Hong Kong is different because of its special political status.) Another issue is how many fearless, independent-minded guests you can get in Beijing.

Yes, very true WWU. I think Singapore is a good choice for the regional bureau. It's no less or more favoured than KL or HK, in terms of business-ness and centralized geography, not to mention an open broadcasting policy.

Small aside: Note on Twitter that Singapore-based Rico Hizon is blasting Singapore Airlines however, for flying him from Singapore to Manila with not enough fuel, and having to divert to a secondary airport in Manila! Steady on, Rico!

N9 is looking good today. Martine Dennis and Co. are there for the weekend, whilst (one assumes) maintenance is done in N8.

^^ But the close up shot of the presenter looks bad to me cause the background and glass look so blurry.

Lucy Hockings has just announced (at the BOTH) that World Business Report (with Aaron) and then Sports Today is up next, whereas in actual fact, it was HardTalk which appeared (as it would do in the usual slot). Furthermore, Aaron would normally clock off an hour earlier. I am just wondering if the bulletin just completed was in fact recorded, even although it didn't have a recorded slug. (Referring to the bulletin which closed at 1630 LON time/1930 Dubai time).

Really lovely shot then on GMT, coming back from break, with a camera shot zooming slowly into George with a left-hand side view of the desk. BBC World News strap and GMT DOG on show. Really simple but very nice alternative to normal out of break GMT graphic.

Either GMT is recorded now, or George just got his times mixed up! It's not midday at 12:31.

World had some very creative camera work yesterday on Impact, The Hub and WNT Zeinab. Loads of creative new angles, zooms, and Zeinab even standing up! Nik Gowing had the camera almost above his head for most of The Hub.

I guess that's why they were in N9 at the weekend, so the cameras could be adjusted?

Us in the UK can see these new camera techniques on the iPlayer, on World News Today. It looks very nice and it's good to see N8 being used as best it can - rather than the standard head shot and side shot for the whole program.
