Really interesting to watch World and NC side by side during the 1am hour, I am surprised World viewers put up with all the breaks for trailers. Is there anywhere in the world where local broadcasters are inserting their own adverts still?
The version of World you can see from inside TV Centre (which I assume may be the one you're watching) is known as 'World Core' - I think the one where other broadcasters insert their own bits. I've not been up to the Broadcast Centre for a while, but the playout suite used to generate 9 or so different streams of World, some of which had regional ads in place of the breakfiller, and some of which had regional variations.

Sometimes, when they're not simulcasting, N8 will continue with some news while 'World Core' goes to a breakfiller. I'm sure it makes sense to someone!

I don't know where the online stream I was watching originates from (it's possibly a re-stream of livestation), but thanks for the explanation.

Not seen that before - Peter Gibbs doing some weather (Hurricane Irene news, really) from the screens in N8.

They've done it before during big weather events. I wish I did more. It gives the weather more life on the channel

Ooooooh. A wee bit of friction evident there between Tim Willcox and Aaron Heslehurst during the business chat a moment ago. Tim was feeding Aaron his lines on the Japanes story, but rather than allowing him to speak about it, Tim kept interrupting Aaron and preempted everything Aaron was going to say. To which Aaron uttered: "Geez. I can't go on with this man........."

Ha! I wish I'd seen that! To be fair to Aaron, Tim does come across as a bit of a know-it-all at times and does have a tendency to interrupt and/or dominate a discussion. I must say that I'm not really a lover of these business 'chats' that they now do on World. Sometimes they feel awfully contrived. It was far better when the newsreader would hand over to the business presenter for a self-contained business bulletin, rather than a cosy chat. I accept that the chats make the channel seem a little less formal, but they can be a bit awkward at times.

Tim Willcox never does the newspaper review either, after the Ten O'Clock News - when all other presenters do. Sian Williams last week was clearly expecting to have a chat, and he just said 'Thanks Sian' and introduced the weather into the single shot of him.

BBC WORLD BROKE THE STORY OF THE NIGERIAN UN BUILDING BLAST. THEY HAD THE PICS AND SPOKE WITH THE FOREIGN MINISTER ON THE PHONE. CNN WAS RUNNING PIERS MORGAN AND BROKE INTO IT TO SPEAK TO A JOURNALIST FROM ANOTHER NETWORK. AFTER ABOUT 3 MINUTES THEY WENT BACK TO PM TONIGHT.

He's the same every Friday after the Ten - whether it's Fiona Bruce or Mishal Husain handing to him aswell. One of the best rolling news anchors there is, however he is smarmy. I don't think he really likes chatting on air too much - far too much news to be getting on with.

Now there's something I've definitely not seen for a while - Mike Embley just signed off the 2300GMT bulletin with a "let's have a look back at some of the extraordinary images from Libya from the past few days" - played over a headline bed, with occasional thunderclaps. All it was missing was a proper closing sequence - instead we got a bit of World pres. (it was some countdown clips with breakfiller-ish music)

I think those chats between the presenter of the 10 and the following NC presenter are truly truly aweful. It always comes across that the 10 presenter is not interested and they want to go home. Especially when its with Chris Eakin, they both awkwardly stutter through the whole thing with forced smiles.

It would be so much better if the 10 presenter stuck with it and took the lead for 10-15 minutes, did a proper newspaper review and discussion with Chris and a guest.
