Something rather unusual turned up in the office this week: a COW.

But not any COW I've seen before: when it was plugged in to a monitor,
it did this:

Does anyone know if it was ever used on air? WSTV is a bit of a mysterious beast, and there isn't much evidence of it online. Transdiffusion has a few screengrabs, but only with a fairly stylised version of the COW.

If anyone's interested in what they look like, by the way, it's a rather large box. You can see one here. (Along with a GNAT, one of which turned up too)

And both were welcomed on a number of vision circuits to SW19 I believe...

I wonder if any of the BBC1 ones are knocking around anywhere?

I think I know where the BBC East one ended up.

World taking some of PMQs today - occasionally crossing over to a reporter (didn't see who) on College Green.

[edit] it's Naomi Grimley.

Today during GMT they just had to end the show at 25 minutes past the hour even though the PMQ was in full force. Then at the end of second part they rushed both Zeinab and Aaron by starting the music while Aaron was talking about the biz effect of the whole story and also some breaking news he had. Zeinab had to finish it off quickly, I'm surprised they didn't cut her while talking. Rolling Eyes

This has always been one of my big issues with BBC W. A total lack of flexibility, even during big British breaking news. They just have to end the broadcast at a certain time so that they can run their endless boring breakfillers. It's like the channel is run by robots.
On the other side CNN had uninterrupted coverage with anchors taking as much time as they need. Plus CNN has real ads, not just a breakfiller.

Whenever Ros Atkins anchors there are some innovations. Today he presents from the side of the desk with the newswall behind, most of the time it has fake newsroom on it but for some stories they used a wider shot and a picture related to it.

They should do the same during Newsday. Such a waste of N8 to simply sit in front of a yellow background.

Ros now appears to be trialling a new Sunday segment, and has been innovating the slot quite radically for the last few weeks, as posted by me a few pages before.

He was standing up doing the press last week, and also had a pemament icon on the screen titling his email and Twitter addresses.

Fast and Pacey, unlike the rest of the weekend on world.

Do I like it? Hmmmmm.

Edit: just saw the seated version of Ros using the news wall as a moving background: yes, I really do like it.

If only the BBC News channel could take a leaf out of BBC World News' presentation. It's far superior to that of the News channel.

Haven't I seen you mention that somewhere before? Wink
