I guess the rationale is that if something in the UK really needs continuous breaking news coverage, then it's important enough to go out internationally, at least until some UK only coverage could be started.
No different to CNN/US, who have no overnight anchor and rely on CNNI - in the past this has led to rolling coverage of major breaking US news on CNNI, most notably the death of Senator Edward Kennedy in 2009 which was presented from London until CNN/US could get American Morning started early
If a UK story doesn't require rolling coverage then the UK opt-out points/World breaks can be used, and possibly it may also warrant a mention in the worldwide bulletin too. And possibly if the story broke at say half midnight on a Friday morning, the News Channel team could stay on a bit longer to provide UK only coverage?
Surely covering British breaking news extensively would be even more difficult now the programme is Asia-oriented?
