Surely covering British breaking news extensively would be even more difficult now the programme is Asia-oriented?

I guess the rationale is that if something in the UK really needs continuous breaking news coverage, then it's important enough to go out internationally, at least until some UK only coverage could be started.

No different to CNN/US, who have no overnight anchor and rely on CNNI - in the past this has led to rolling coverage of major breaking US news on CNNI, most notably the death of Senator Edward Kennedy in 2009 which was presented from London until CNN/US could get American Morning started early

If a UK story doesn't require rolling coverage then the UK opt-out points/World breaks can be used, and possibly it may also warrant a mention in the worldwide bulletin too. And possibly if the story broke at say half midnight on a Friday morning, the News Channel team could stay on a bit longer to provide UK only coverage?

I'm sure the production team could split, maybe it would require a few more people, so that the NC gallery would put out a programme from London with Babita, and Newsday could be presented just by Rico from Singapore but still done through the London World News gallery...

Has the side pod been given a facelift? I noticed a rather more obvious frosted background behind the plasma screens.

Also, BBC World News came from N9 over the weekend. The old gal is looking absolutely splendid all of a sudden, with improved lighting and lots of red colored accents in the newsroom behind. In fact, the newly spruced look almost suggests that N9 is going to be used more frequently for something or other.

You're starting to sound like the Beeb themselves, suggesting a bit of frosted glass counts as a facelift. Wink Remember what websites were saying in the run up to The Hub, Impact Asia and GMT launching about a "relaunched studio" that turned out to be a bit of LED lighting in the newsroom?

I have to say N9's newsroom view is excellent - where as I find the N8 view pretty dull. The best view they use is the angle they use on GMT where more of the red panelling can be seen, like this:

instead of the standard view they use, to the side with the gallery very slightly in view, like this:

And N9, as it looked this weekend:

I don't think it's that the N8 backdrop itself is bad, but rather that the colours are too dull. For a set that then uses lots of whites, greys and blacks, it can feel a bit lifeless.

Do we know why World are spending the weekends in N9 at the moment? If it's just maintenance why not just move to N9 for a week and do the whole lot at once without having to pay weekend overtime?

Programmes such as GMT, Newsday, Impact, The Hub cannot come from N9 in their usual format where as all bulletins are standard at the weekend. Perhaps this is why?

I'm liking this new Newsday, but if they have gone to the trouble of desiging new graphics for the programme, then why just leave the bog standard music for it?

As you can see in this tweeted photo (http://yfrog.com/gzm9fhpij), N8 gets amber-orange non lighting for Newsday, darker than what I thought - It's a shame we get stuck with 2 head shots though. A wide shot would be nice now-and-again!

You know, exactly where that shot was taken would make a great opening/ closing shot for the bulletin.

They did use a slightly wider shot with some of the big screen and swirls in the background at the start of the headlines updates last night. I agree though that they could definitely use the studio more flexibly.
