Were any other camera angles actually used in the programme? If not it's pretty poorly presented and doesn't make good use of the Barcos.

I don't remember any other camera angles. I certainly didn't see the desk or the studio at all. So I think that shot was the only one. It was the same boring camera angles in Singapore, no wide shot of the studio there either. I was excited when I saw a frosted glass backdrop for the first 30 minutes of Newsday before Rico returned to the usual studio.

I think this has been a very rushed launch. No new music and not even any special graphics like The Hub, GMT and Impact have (like special versions of the diagonal transition and the programme name above 'BBC World News'. Perhaps we will get some new music in the coming weeks.

I certainly hope so!

Similarly Sports Today used a very tight shot of Amelia Harris in front of those peculiarly-placed television screens in the pod. Very poor presentation on the studio-side.

Yep, overall not bad but louzy graphics reminiscent of a packet of Strepsils being thrown around. Nice to see a real Asia-Pacific headed news schedule, with a good set of top stories. Shame about losing that nice view of Singapore for a tight close-up of a frosted glass panel. Is Sharanjit Leyl gone now? I thought she'd be good at this programme! Also, could we possibly have seen Babita at the desk and using the full set including the Barco? The Impact Asia-esque shot seems a bit too much.

Did anyone notice if Sport Today was live or recorded?

The London head-on shot was very similar to the square shot used on Impact. The Logo is too bright yellow to bode well with the red desk, hence the probable reason not to have wides.

Possibly, although BBC Breakfast has always managed to blend yellow and orange with red.

Based on comments on twitter from Matt Gooders and Amelia Harris, I assume it's live.

Sport Today was live. The addition of a new sport shift means that Jonathan (oops) Komla, Naga and Martine no longer have to read the sport just before 0530. The overnight sports presenter stays for that hour, and I'm assuming for the 0600 hour too. Amelia Harris was on today shortly before 0530.

I didn't like.....

The titles seem like the circle is just flying in all sorts of directions and don't do much, the logo is relatively pleasant so they could have been alot better. Also the closing could have been better, it was only a sting.
The fact there's no new music!

The dual anchoring isn't used as well as it could be (like it is on CNN). THe only time they were in the same shot was at the start, headlines and end. It would be nice to see more warmth between the two!

I can't really warm to Rico as an anchor, his head moves far too much, was there an earthquake in Signapore this morning?

Two many "power of asia" reports. In the first edition which is admittedly all I watched, there were three, stick to one feature report and use of the rest of the time to report the latest news!

Studios - London used just one shot. Singapore's studio was bland bland. There was no colour at all, especially with Rico's beige-ish number!

The premise was good but it wasn't anything exciting, which is a shame really!

I prefer the old overnights, Alastair with the newsroom backgroud and just regular news.

There also used to be a 9:30 World News bulletin weekdays too. Not sure when that stopped - around 2004 I think.

I think the weekday World News 09:30 bulletin stopped when N24 relaunched with the now BBC World News set. It was always the only time you would see BBC World News astons used on N24 in their full glory from the flags era.

Also in 1977 didn't the BBC have a programme also called 'Newsday' which aired ovenight?

BBC News 24 also had a programme called 'BBC Newsday' way back in the flags era although if i remember rightly it didnt vary much from any other hour on the channel at the time. This is also where 'Sportsday' came from but of course that lives on.
