Was Rico in front of a new background? Babita is in a tight shot against BARCO screens with an animated background (from the titles?) for the intro, first and second story, so I'm guessing she's staying there. Interesting that they went with 'This is Newsday, broadcasting to our viewers in the UK and around the world'.
Definitely a new background behind Rico - looks like it could be frosted glass in front of a newsroom? I actually quite like the graphics, just a shame about the music (and very static camera angles). This is reminding me how much I like Rico Hizon - he was always fun on overnights, but then disappeared (for UK viewers). Rico and Babita could be a good mix.
I quite like it because I always welcome change, the bouncing orange on the titles is interesting but I can't help but think the backdrop behind Babita looks like you're watching ITV News (see pic of ITV News below)...
I like the focus on Asia and the constant update on the News. It feels like they are on top of the stories from the region instead of waiting for the London team in the "World Today" Slot. They had two hours of news, business and sports while CNN was on tape programming. It never happens like this, usually CNN is the one with live news at these hours. They could have use a new music but that is still a possibility.
Well, that's probably the laziest (re-)launch of a BBC News programme I've seen in 20 years of watching it. Recycled music and graphics with a very basic and boring opening sequence. Really disappointing
I have to agree with everything everyone has said on here. Following on from the graphics and music of GMT, Impact and The Hub, this new programme's presentation is disappointing. However, it's great to see Babita and Rico - these two are very good presenters.
Is it likely that the graphics for these programmes are in-house made? I agree they could have used the Business Edition music. I know that the programme was replaced with a double-head, but why did the Business Edition go from World News?
Also, why did Rico present from what is presumably the newroom, then to move to the Singapore studio? I was getting my hopes up for a new studio. They just seemed to stick with the shot with the red panel in the background.
They seemed to be playing the report about the World Service a lot as well! Trying to make a point?!
Were any other camera angles actually used in the programme? If not it's pretty poorly presented and doesn't make good use of the Barcos.
I think this has been a very rushed launch. No new music and not even any special graphics like The Hub, GMT and Impact have (like special versions of the diagonal transition and the programme name above 'BBC World News'. Perhaps we will get some new music in the coming weeks.
