So since 2008 a supposed mothballed studio has had two new desks ontop of the fact that the whole news department is moving in less than a year and all TVC studios will be unused
Testing possible BH equipment?

I know this is the wrong thread, but since you mention, his biography has been deleted on the website. A great shame the man didn't get a good send-off.

I suppose in regard to N9 needs must, since they needed to obviously use N9 for election coverage, so they were almost obliged to make do with what they have with some minor adjustments. I do hope that the BBC look to change the layout of the studios. On the Lightwell website, there are some excellent designs for Saudi television and Skai. Let's hope they go all out on these designs and make the most of what will be an excellent new premises in Broadcasting House. Not forgetting graphics as well, although I'm not holding much hope, perhaps just a minor change, in these times to justify the £500,000 they spent.
So does this mean there won't be a bunch of different presenters doing overnights as usual.
I guess Alastair Yates has really retired, he is missed.

For those interested, it seems Alastair Yates last ever presenting shift was around the 2nd April, as looking back on the forum Deborah McKenzie presented on the 3rd April and he hadn't been mentioned until a few weeks later when people asked where he had gone.
I have a cap from 30th March 2011 of Mr Yates - so probably one of his last ever shifts!

If you read my post below the picture:
you'll find that it wasn't a new desk.
2008-2012? Four years of a new desk? Hardly barely used.
And considering N8 has used the same desk since 2003, I think they've got their fair share of use out of them!

I don't think it's a new desk. It's just got added bits at the side. You can see the gap where they've been added on, presumably for the elections so they could fit more guests.

Which itself was a much newer desk than the one in N8, wasn't it?
Does PBS still pick up the 2am bulletins, by the way? If so, how will that work with the new Newshour programme, which seems very Asia-oriented?
The updated desk didn't happen in 2008, it's from last year I think.
When they used it for Christmass 2009 it was the old desk.

ginnyfan, you agreed with me...?
Here's the old desk from 2004-2008.
Somewhere between 2008 and 2009, N9 got update with the swirls on the glass and a new desk, similar to N6's. It was first seen on screen in the EU elections in 2009 (below - sorry I haven't got a front view but you get the idea).
It has been used ever since, only that in the local elections this year they added two extra bits at the side so they could fit more guests. These bits were still on when BBC World News was in N9 the other day. I've drawn arrows so you can see the joins.
In conclusion, it's the same desk so no money has been wasted.

^^^ You are correct, I can see the old desk within the new one. Here's a good pic to compare.

That's not correct. As I understand it, the move to BH will be a staggered process lasting up to a year. Everything isn't going to move overnight.
