In their planning they probably decided to have someone else other than the anchor of the show do the headlines. I think it is a good idea and it add some variation to the faces you see.

Is there a reason why George couldn't do the news summary as well as the main bulletin on GMT?

I'm guessing its the same reason Geeta/Lucy will be doing summaries during Impact Asia, and The Hub. As well as the 15:00 GMT bulletin. They will probably have Mike Embley doing summaries during World News Today.

You cant just sack presenters to change a schedule, you have to do something with them. - Its the same complication that has left the News Channel scuppered with the same presenter line up for years (I know this is on the wrong thread) serves them right for going double headed.

All in all I've been quite impressed with what World News have done today. The changes don't shout about themselves, and fit in with the current branding very well. Shame about the weird slowmo music on GMT & The Hub.

Its also nice to see the New Astons appearing on BBC Four's broadcast of World News Today.

Very strange to see the BBC World News DOG during the BBC Four Broadcast!

EDIT: Rewatching some of the GMT videos from earlier is the main headline bed the same as the current BBC Breakfast one?

Unless they wanted a gap or a red box I cant see them removing it. They cant even replace it with "BBC News & Clock" due to possible confusion with the News Channel

Maybe it is for branding.

To be honest what's the point in covering it up, it's not in-accurate is it. It is BBC World News. I can't see them mini programme banners lasting myself anyway so I bet it will be gone soon.

Is it? We've gone from simple straps which only appear when they're needed to a great big block that's constantly on screen. Step back IMO.

I wonder if World News America will have similar treatment...

I agree, they'll leave it as it is until they get bored of the banners (or not, CNN do a similar thing). Either that or they'll start zipping them up and down in between every story or segment.

Be interesting to see which part of the studio BBC News 24 use at 21:30.

"Nice" in the sense that its unusual for BBC Four, i probably should have phrased it slightly differently.

As for my actual opinion: The banners themselves arent anything spectacular, nor are any of the new graphics for any of the new programmes, but they do fit in nicely with the current branding.

Pick that apart at your peril LOL

I really hope that on weekends they won't only use the new small set since all bulletins are regular BBCWN. Sad
