I think they make more of a effort when its broadcasting to UK audiences, otherwise N9 its pretty much how it is, poor lighting, shoddy cameras which the Beeb should have thrown away many years ago, sound interference, luckily BBC World News comes from N8 and not from N9.

Was it this bad when BBC World came from N9, though? I don't recall it being so apparently bad, but then I got very few opportunities to see it.

The plasma is of terrible picture quality in N9. The image always has a yellow-ish tinge to it.

And often a horrible reflection, too.

I watched GMT for the first time yesterday; while I love the graphics, the little GMT bug above the BBC World News logo is far too big. It blocks out half the picture!

No, House, it was nice and clean and sharp when World was fully based in n9. Now, it looks foggy, when they drop in for the odd weekend. Foggy and shabby.

Was it a last minute decampment to N9 or planned?

Indeed, it looked far better back in 2008 (and prior to 2008) - not brilliant, but far less blocky than it is now. They also had the ability to do a wide shot at the TOTH (which they still don't do on the Overnight simulcasts - why I don't know).

Clip from 2008 above shows how N9 looked back its 'used' days. I think when WN moved to N8, they probably shifted all the naff past-its-best kit, cameras etc to N9 and N8 got the 'still working just about' stuff.

And as if by magic, they're still in N9 today but the plasma is sporting a new static graphic, featuring a newsroom background with what appears to be a faux "frosted" swirling glassglobe on top of it, similar to the frostings over in N8.

I was watching World from N9 last night, and I thought the exact opposite. I don't know if they did something to the newsroom in the background, but I thought it looked far better than it has for a long time, with better lighting. The new desk is nice, and although I agree the plasma looks awful, everything else appeared much better than it had in N9 for years.

^^ Agreee. The newsroom behind looks better, there's more red, the main camera shot they use now is better too, the old one BBCW had was terrible.

Did they change the desk?

Did they change the desk?

The desk is now similar to the desk used in N6.

People speculated that the desk was intended for the refurbished N8 (we saw pictures of the N8 desk dismantled once News 24 moved out) but then they found those grey desks scratched a lot more. How true that is I don't know but it does seem weird that N9, a mothballed studio, got a new desk but N8 didn't.

N9 was recently used for the coverage of the Referendum Results, Local Elections, Scottish Parliamentary Elections, Welsh Assembly and Northern Ireland Assembly elections, hence why they have a new desk.

Dunno about scratches, but whenever I see the paper review and they do the overhead shot, you can see the desk is covered in pen marks.

I wonder if we world will see more of N9 over the next year. I would imagine N8 will have to be vacated and a lot of the (useful) equipment and newsroom surroundings boxed and moved over to BH before the actual move to help set up the new news channel newsroom set as I doubt everything will be brand new. Makes me think the recent world decamp could be about getting N9 ready for a longer stint.
