Big loss for BBCW. He was one of the few presenters with personality, wish he came back to CNN.
Honestly, even though Owen didn't have a regular weekdays slot, I think we've seen more of him in the last 2 years than Mishal or some of the regulars. He had a regular weekend slot plus doing business or news updates on weekdays, sometimes even for weeks without a break.

True, though there's more cachet in having your own programme/strand/slot on an international channel. As frequently as he was on, his pattern was rarely regular. The same goes for Adrian Finighan during his time at World.
Owen Thomas expresses his frustration with BBC News on his Twitter page (@OwenThomasBBC).
He remarks that "
he has been taken for granted for too long, worked every weekend for two years and every Christmas. The frustration has set in........looking forward to moving to Bloomberg where he feels he'll actually be appreciated.......and wanted........which is a same, because the BBC people are nice...but he's been taken for granted for too long
"
No. It's the only BBC News output I have had access to for the last seventeen years, so when stating "here at World" , I am doing so as a viewer in BBC World land.
About time: the old BBC World News TV schedule site was looking so dated.

Also: shame about Owen Thomas - remember early World Business Reports from the mid 90s with him presenting. Also thought he was a good presenter on the ITV News Channel. With regards Tanya Beckett - I remember one of her first appearances on BBC World (after being on NBC Super Channel/CNBC European Money Wheel) - presenting the 2210 cet edition of World Business Report (that existed around 1998 time) she was really nervous - but I know what other posters mean - she can appear to be quite giggly at times.
Owen Thomas is just about to present his final news bulletin on BBC World in the next half hour or so, whereas he may well be found at the business desk next week. Still sad to see him leaving. Link:
All of this chat about Owen being 'hard done by' is frankly fairly small beer.
Owen is a good, competent broadcaster, yes - however one with the vague air of insincerity. When Owen was hired 2 years ago the premise seems to have been to find another fill in presenter who would do what Tim Willcox was doing on a smaller scale, and they succeeded. I'm all for trying to move yourself up the career ladder but we are looking here at a worldwide news network, and any exposure can only be a good thing.
What can't be a good thing is to go on Twitter slagging the corporation the minute you leave. They've given Owen two years of fairly decent work (and I can't imagine he's suffered financially for the supposed being 'taken for granted') and I think it's just rather bigheaded to quite fancy your name in lights, and use the fact that that hasn't happened as a partial excuse for leaving. Journalists are there to find, report and read the news, not 'be' the news.
Hey ho. I'd love to be 'taken for granted' like Owen was - and indeed so will whoever takes his place in the revolving door.
Congratulations to Owen, anyway, for the job at Bloomberg, and the best of wishes for the future, I'm sure.

Took the words right out of my mouth, I knew he had a personality - but that Twittersphere ranting surely helps no one!!!
I've just looked at his twitter feed. He's presumably asked when's he leaving (by Radio 4's Corrie Crawfield) and he says "After Easter. Been taken for granted for too long. Done every weekend for two years. And Xmas. And wasn't getting anywhere. Fed up of being the stand-in. Which is a shame cos great people at the Beeb".
Er, that's hardly a rant. Good luck to him.
i didn't notice when and why nisha pilai, lyndsey brancher, david jessel, david branner or rob bonnet left. Do anyone know where they are working now? I tried to google it, but without results. Presenters who left for me are only nik, lyse, mike, martine and mishall
