Coincidentally and in line with your query, Zeinab Badawi has just trailed on BBC World from the Pyramids in Egypt, where she is advertising the next BBC World Debate which is to be aired on Saturday. The topic is "slavery". So, I guess that partially explains her absence from the newsdesk in the last two weeks. Edit: And now, complete with headscarf, she is filing a report on "The Hub" from refugee camps in Mogadishu, Somalia. Indeed - she is out of the office!

Oh yes, she did a great report on World News Today from The Gulf of Aden, not to mention the World Debate and World Challenge efforts, so she's been a very busy woman - no wonder us in the UK miss her! Oddly enough, I don't miss George, and I probably think Jonathan Charles has probably done just as many GMT's as him.

Oops! A VERY early fade-back from a report on North Korea just caught Peter Dobbie napping slouched on the desk, with head leaning on fist and elbows on the desk. Looking totally bored. LOL.

Ever the pro, the Dobster picked himself up and carried on regardless. LOL

Is Karin still on? Haven't seen her in a while.

Yes. She did the weekend shift a few days ago, and also read on The Hub and Impact last week for a couple of days too.

Nice when "old faces" turn up out of the blue and randomly on World. Last night, the brilliant Nisha Pillai was filling-in on WNTZB. And then this evening, David Garrido doing the sports news during The Hub.

Haven't seeen either for truly ages.

Not sure you'll be seeing much of him in the future, either - I just had a look to see whether he was still mostly at Radio 1, and discovered he's off to Sky Sports in the new year.

In fact I believe that he tweeted that today was his farewell from BBC World, with yesterday being his farewell to BBC Radio 1.

Just watching the 0530 edition of BBC World News on the iPlayer and Sally Bundock's off on maternity leave, so they did a nice little 'goodbye' for her. Usually, there's a light-hearted final story on the newspaper review, but then the BBC World News music started and Sally, a bit shocked was presented with a bunch of flowers by Jonathan Charles - ahh, that's nice!!! She said "I'm off to make my own little production!". No mention of Jonathan's soon-coming departure though!

On a side-note - why is it that they are apparentally incapable of drawing that programme to a proper close? They always have to rush their goodbyes, and if there is enough time then they chuck in the headline! It always looks a bit messy and unpolished, they did it fine before!!! Here, here, and here (my favourite of the closes overall!.

fully agree, SNT Three. Those closes were all superb and clean, not like these days. I wonder why they don't use the brand "The World Today" any more? It added distinction to the programme. And does anyone have the clip of JC bringing out the flowers for "Sal"? Can't access the BBC iPlayer here. Crying or Very sad

Side note - being a Friday, unusual to have JC on at all. It's normally Martine Dennis.

Happy New Year to all fellow Global watchers of BBC World News. I wish you all a successful and healthy and happy 2011.

Not surprisingly, Peter Dobbie played out the old year on BBC World. It's been a very busy year for Peter, who has almost equalled (if not surpassed) the great Tim in anchoring hours on the channel during 2010!

I have one main hope for BBC World News in 2011 - some more double-headed flagship programmes. The Hub, Impact, GMT and Zeinab are all great programmes, but I feel would be strengthened a bit by having a primary co-presenetr alongside the main anchor at the main desk, and who shares the presenting duties fully, as opposed to hiding away at the coffee table to do the news snippets.

Let's see!

Oh, and Goodbye and Good Luck to JC. He will be missed.

Lucy Hockings is back on BBC World. I wonder if she will take over from JC?
