Just saw that they've done a nicer, less dodgy edit of that new countdown - now the crossfade at the end works much better. Still don't have the wooshes in time though...

BBC Worldwide has uploaded it onto their YouTube Channel

That's maybe because it's the old 2005 News 24 music until 00:00.

2006 News 24 I believe it is. It doesn't sound any better to me. The images linger way too long on the same correspondent as well, making the whole thing look shoddy compared to their previous effort and the BBC News Channel's.

I like it.

There is something not quite right with the numbers at the end of the count down. It fades from to 00:15 with 00:00 underneath on the video. Maybe some recycled footage?

It's the 2006 News 24 theme, then crossfaded with the end of the 2009 BBC World News Countdown to create the extended ending.

Yup well picked. It's actually because they added some extra layers (by offsetting the footage) on top of the entrance of the logo. When it's slowed down you can see that the logo actually appears faintly early for a few frames, and also the 00:00 reappears briefly. This is pretty shoddy work to be honest.

I've compiled the two endings of the earlier and newer versions of this 'new' countdown, plus slowed down the end so you can clearly see the numbers/logo error.

You'll notice one of the main mistakes they've made with the audio edit is that the News 24 Countdown is slightly louder than the BBC World News countdown that it cross fades to, making the ending obviously tacked on.

It actually sounds good slowed down, LOL. Maybe good for a breakfiller.

Impact Asia again today.

So having completed my thrilling holiday I am now ready to report on my findings having watched BBC World for a bit.

In terms of the look of the set, how it changes between the different shows it is rather good. Far nicer than when News 24 had it and I like that they've kept the nice little map zoom animation on the barco wall when throwing to a correspondant. In terms of News and presenting it's pretty standard BBC however its nice to see plenty Lyse and Zenab Badawi.

However, in terms of presentation around the bulletins and shows its an absolute pigs breakfast. What an utter mess.

For starters there is the afformentioned dreadful cludge of a countdown. Added to that are the terrible idents consisting of badly chopped bits of countdown with that overused BBC News graphic at the end.

And as for the breakfiller. What on earth is that meant to be? It has a news section that tells you to look at the website with a dull photo of radio telescopes. During this there is a "more at bbc.com/news" bit of text underneath that MOVES a few pixels half way through.

Also what is that music? It's ghastly, it's so so horrible to listen to. now I know there are arguments for not having such a grand piece as the 2000 masterpiece to make the adverts work better but my god it's hideous. I'd rather listen to the music on the Wii menu than that mess? How exactly did they record it? Get someone to roll around a cookware dept in bubblewrap and run it though an 80s synth? It's hideous.

Messy, clunky, unprofessional. Not at all helped by the increasingly tedious lambie narin graphics. Not impressed.

Its been getting slowly worse for a while now. I had hoped they would tidy it up a bit with the refresh when Impact Asia and all the other new stuff came on, but OOOOO no, and not even a new countdown when BBC News (24) got one.

They need to go back to differentiating the BBC News bulletins from the channel itself. Have a channel identity that is different from the News branding. We've effectively only got 2 idents. The fact that they did the 2008 rebrand on the cheap is beginning to show, those graphics looked tired less than a year after they were launched.

Lambie Nairn does too much News stuff, Alaribiya looks like Question Time, and Abu Dhabi is just a Blue Square version of BBC, and NOS is like the Beeb was in the 90's blended with today's Beeb and some magic mushrooms. And they all have music by David Lowe. Hmm..

I have to say at this point that BBC Persian's presentation trumps the lot of them. Better Countdown, Better Idents, and more professional looking... even if I cant understand a word they are saying.

Yes, and to believe that BBC Arabic and BBC Persian are both international outputs, and the News Channel, being a domestic output gets the worse offering in terms of graphics. They better come up with something majorly radical and successful during the next rebranding, expected to be when they move to BH.

I must say though, the new programmes introduced earlier this year have improved the former bland, World News Today schedules. It was incredibly tedious having that same programme on 4 times a day. GMT, IA and The Hub are great for the channel. I was looking forward to Lyse Doucet's Frontier programme, but this seems to have been scrapped. Another talented presenter on World News who should definitely have her own programme.

I hear what you mean about the breakfiller music. I hate it with a passion. The David Lowe mixes should be reinstated. Surely they can pop on his BBC World: The Music CD instead?!

An exceptionally elegant fitted chocolate brown leather bomber jacket with studs along all the seams. It was awesome.

I am not one of those people who gets distracted by what news people wear, but this was out of this world. Everyone in our office chorussed the same comment almost simultaneously when she appeared on screen.

Beat that, Victoria Beckham.

Ros Atkins is quite good on the news. Alas, Tim has turned up on The Hub.
