Impact Asia was aired today, presented by Mishal Husain. I wonder if it is now going to five days per week? On another note, we have had Tim Willcox on duty for ten hours so far on BBC World today. He presented his first bulletin a 11am, and is still on now at 9pm. (UAE time). Ok, there was a short gap for one of the GMT editions perhaps, but that is a helluva long time for us.................................
The new countdown on BBC World is good indeed, including a slightly remixed version of the music and finale into the headlines. But they only show it about once every twelve hours!!! Whilst the old countdown predominates, along with the old music. Hope they keep it after the world cup and just remove those soccer images.
Also, have they added new red spotlights at ankle level over at the bar-stool bulletin area? I haven't noticed those spots before. Got a good view of them today in one of Peter Dobbie's opening shots.

They've introduced a new countdown with world cup images?
Yes, Chris. But only a few world cup images (mainly of the big stadium and a few random goals etc.) The rest of the countdown features the senior anchors on location in the field, and images are shown of Zeinab Badawi, George Alagiah, Mishal Husain and Lyse Doucet in various settings. (In the case of Lyse, it's in Kabul and Zeinab is in Sudan, I think).
Interestingly, Nik Gowing isn't shown, although I've only seen a 25s version of the countdown. Maybe he appears in the full length version.
These shots are intersperced with some shots from the previous countdowns and also the random soccer images I mentioned above.
There is no red "whoosh" in this version, just normal imagery.
The music is just the News 24 2006 countdown, and then they have extended it by tacking on the last few seconds of the most recent BBC World News countdown at the end, presumably so as to get the 'two note' BBC World motif in.
On a positive note, it's good to see them going back to having the countdowns line up with the octave higher pips at 00:10, and finishing at 00:00

The octave higher pips starting at 0:07 or 0:08 always sounded odd to me: it seemed to randomly selected and didn't made any sense. Why higher pips and attract attention when they're placed at a non-important point?

Don't suppose anyone's got any caps? My Livestation link for BBC World News has decided to stop working...
Just seen the countdown, pretty average. Nice new shots, lacks time lapse footage and yep Nik is in it. Music is a lot better than current countdown music although the end is really poor.

Yeah the end is a really dodgy +3 crossfade between the 2 countdowns, but as you say, the music is much better than the current because it is the 2006 News 24 one - surely one of the best (and in it's original form, one with a great ending, something very few of them manage)
