IMO the only period when BBC World looked cheap was from 2004 till 2008, when they revamped the set into that bland white glassy horror and used the ugly new black orange openings and slowed down music. Everything was a downgrade in that era. Before and after that it looked great, certainly better than News 24. But yes, this upcoming new era will be something totally different, it's a new building after all plus they will have so much space, for the first time ever.

I was talking as much about the technical side as the presentation. Poorly going into and out of breaks. Lack of variety in the news presentation despite having named segments.

Oh yes, I get it now. I agree, they started investing more into it last fee years, there's also more creative effort, they did their best to use every inch of current set. Also there is less errors and tech cock ups since 2008.

One question for our insiders - will bulletins finally have a proper closing again? Would be a nice oportinity to return them since now they will have so many nice studio & newsroom shots.

The new video really does show off the studios, and show how brilliant they are. I hope they continue to use 'The World's Newsroom' after the move to NBH. The fact that they've mentioned HD so many times in the past few days makes me think there will be a BBC World News HD, in some territories, at least.

I agree that World News has always looked a bit cheap. I've never really thought N8 was that great, and despite having a very nice Newsroom backdrop, it has always felt a bit cheap and dull and dark, to me. And they've never really had much space, despite how much they've tried to vary things. It looks like this will be rectified now, though, and the studios look great.

Also, is there going to be any 'downtime', as such, during the change between TVC and NBH. One bulletin will finish from N8 (assuming it isn't pre-recorded), with the gallery there putting all the graphics in, and then the rest will come from NBH - will it be a seamless switch or not?

Well as mentioned earlier in the thread, there is at least one broadcaster already broadcasting "BBC World News HD". It's only Harshy saying it won't be, because he's not picked up any test transmissions.

It should be. Remember BBC World runs through a transmission gallery after the studio, so as far as the output is concerned, they're just switching from one outside source to another.

Will the automated/robotic cameras be able to replicate job shots? Or is there the a dedicated 'after title establishing shot' camera?

As you can see in the images above, they still have a little jimmy triangle so they'll have an operator for that (probably the "missing" one from TC7)

Wouldnt they involve the NC temporarily, while they change over?

They're not changing anything about the channel distribution though, only the "normal" source on their router. If the whole of NBH breaks down just before midday, we'll just see World carry on as normal from TVC. It makes no sense at all to suddenly rope in the NC.
