BBC news music should be good as it was re-recorded last December (20th) at Abbey Rd using the BBC Orch and David Arnold !
That makes no sense. I'm expecting a reworking of the existing packages by David Lowe. I wouldn't expect BBC News to use the BBC Orchestra for the string sections of any music produced for W1 and I certainly wouldn't expect them to switch to David Arnold!
I speculate that we have already heard a clue as to what to expect from the 2013 BBC News packages from David Lowe's website in the 'Sub Mix 2012' track he uploaded before christmas.
That said, any use of a live orchestra would be fantastic and would help to add warmth to the news music which has of recent years become more 'electronic' sounding.
Judging only from the static images and what's briefly seen in the promo, the refreshed graphics also look quite promising. A softer red and perhaps a more developed 3D look.

I imagine that recording in Abbey Road was for 'Global with Jon Sopel' which has a strong orchestral sound from what I've heard.
The rest of the music was mastered and completed a while back in time for the piloting. Expect countdowns to sound like the 'BBC News Euphoric Close' from the Olympics, the rest of the music is the same apart from the odd tweak here and there.
Indeed, I recall from the 2003 "relaunch" that the BBC polled the public on "What represents the BBC News to you?" The answer was by and large the music and the pips. I can't see either going for a long while yet.
Remember how long the original 1999 titles stuck around when N6 changed (for the worse imo) into this: http://youtu.be/3CHgm8Bc0_Q?t=59s
I should add, it does sound fresher with the tweaks but the average viewer wouldn't notice any difference. Don't forget, there are some brand new themes to look forward to with WBR and Global.
I would suspect (and it's only my guess) that with regards to the music package for Global with Jon Sopel, David Lowe has paired up with a real orchestra, much like he used real percussion instruments in the 2004 'The World' package for BBC World/BBC Four.
In reading the press release about the BBC World News relaunch, it's great to see that attention has once again focused on the top of the hour sequences. I'm looking forward to seeing how images of the news-gathering operations across the world are intermixed with shots from the newsroom. Couple this with the new dolly-tracking live camera shot of the newsroom that both the BBC News Channel and BBC World News will use; we can expect some great visual enhancements to the top of the hour sequences.
