I don't think the channel is moving to HD as has been suggusted theres no HD frequencies or tests to signal the move to HD.

I've not heard anything official about an HD launch, but that's not to say it's not happening! It would require some upgrade work in the Broadcast Centre - and it would probably be mean of me to suggest that's not happened yet because it's not caused any outages in the process Smile

Remember though that the channel was produced in 16:9 for ages before it started being distributed in widescreen.
Aah so theres the possibility Smile I've noticed a PowerVu feed on 34.5w using HD style parameters but its not reported as HD, and Globecast have a test transponder on 13e.

 BBC World News makes use of three studios:
 Studio B is the largest studio in the building, and will be the base for the channel’s flagship
daily programmes such as GMT with George Alagiah, Impact with Mishal Husain, Global with
Jon Sopel and Focus on Africa. The studio has seven cameras and the set is designed to
accompany a variety of different programme styles.
 Studio C is a fully automated studio, comprising of six robotic cameras, five of which are
mounted on a track enabling them to move around the set and give programmes dynamic
movement, fluidity and an exciting range of camera shots. There will also be intensive use of
big screens to bring in live pictures and for graphics presentation. At a flick of a switch, the
studio colour scheme can change so it can be used for programmes like Newsday or World
Business Report.
 Studio E is a virtual reality studio, using technology developed from the Hollywood movie
industry. Our daily interview programme HARDtalk is recorded there, as well as one-off
special productions, which need 3D graphics or virtual reality images

Interesting they've got Studio A and E mixed up.

You can't trust what she says though can you!?

Why? ...are you insinuating something there?

Dear oh dear! I suggest you actually watch the news as well as being interested in how it looks!

She's very lucky to be still in her job after the appalling messes of Saville/McAlpine, where some may say she wasn't exactly forthcoming with the truth.

Have you not heard of sarcasm?

Sorry - missed that. You get so many stupid people on here you kind of expect stupid comments.

Message to Staff from Peter Horrocks, director of BBC Global News

BBC World News will be launching from its exciting new studios from NBH on Monday 14 January. This is an important moment for the channel. Every aspect of how the channel is put together has been reviewed: there's a new schedule, new title sequences, new junctions, refreshed music and a new top-of-the-hour countdown showcasing how presenters and correspondents "live the story". Most importantly, there will be changes to journalism with significant investments in newsgathering and production. The channel will truly be "the World's Newsroom", every day going live in NBH with colleagues from Languages Services, Online and Newsgathering.

Sounds promising.

That is a very positive statement which would raise my morale if I were a member of staff at BBC News - God knows they need it!

What's the travel time between BH and TVC? I presume George Alagiah will present GMT then travel across London? Is there anyone else who presents on domestic and international on the same day? Tim Willcox maybe.

Travel time from Broadcasting House to White City's about 20 minutes on the Tube or by 35 minutes by car... so it isn't a prohibitively long journey to work in both centres!

Some staff have been going back and forth between TVC and W1 for months!

I realise people have been working, and will be for the next few months, between the buildings - but I was interested to see if they were going to be able to do practically jump between buildings to present programmes on the same day - clearly that is perfectly viable!
