Whilst I agree that, traditionally, BBC World presenters don't usually cross over that much to the domestic outlets, there is the case of George Alagiah who has, for many years, successfully managed to straddle both channels - GMT is 'his' show but so is the Six O'Clock News.

There was also the example of Philip Hayton many years ago, who presented his own shifts on both BBC News 24 and BBC World every week. So, albeit out of the norm, it's not totally unheard of.

Given Jon Sopel's knowledge and experience of British politics, the BBC are hardly going to waste him solely on BBC World. I suspect on some occasions he will anchor big political news here and someone else will deputise for him on BBC World; much in the same way George Alagiah doesn't always present GMT.

And of course Mishal Husain being, arguably, a main presenter on WN doesn't stop her from presenting on BBC1, Newsnight and even this year's Olympics.

Naga Munchetty, too, is a frequent on Breakfast.

Yes, Jon is of course going to keep appearing on BBC One - probably doing the occasional news at one as he does at the moment, and I would be very surprised if he didn't surface at elections due to his political knowledge. However unlesss he moves news channel, he is not going to be able to maintain a daily presence on both channels. George Alagiah does it, but I can't think of any others who do.

But is Jon Sopel even on the BBC News channel every day as it is? I rarely see him any more, unless I'm just watching at the wrong times. He could appear on both channels on different days each week and still be considered a regular presenter of both.

In theory, yes, in practise no. But what does make me suspect he'll stick to both regularly is that they're waiting to launch his show until the new year, presumably around the time the NC and Network are moving. Why wait if a new(ish) look World News will launch from NBH in November? I'm sure they mentioned in an article somewhere that there would be 'rota' changes, so it's possible you'll see Jon present even an hour or two in the morning or evening, in addition to a couple/few hours on World News.

Jane Hill's the other one I expect to end up working for another department sooner or later - World News or Radio 4 would be my guess - as she's pretty versatile, well known and has appeared on many of the BBC's platforms over the years. Plus, she's terribly underused.

I think that would make sense - if Sopel is going to regularly appear on the news channel it is likely to be for a shorter shift earlier/later than his current one - 9 O'clock news? His election show was very successful and they might try to re-create it.

I would never be surprised if Jane Hill moves, but I think it is likely Carrie Gracie will go at some point to World Service/Radio 4. I heard her presenting a China documentary on the World Service the other day so she is clearly doing work for them again since coming back. The upcoming Radio 4 vacancy is who will replace Robin Lustig on the World Tonight. Jane Hill has stood in before, but I doubt she would get it, however Carrie Gracie would be a plausable candidate. But it may well be someone from reporting brought into presentation.

As much as I would like that, don't forget the gallery needs to be free between 9:30 and 10 for the 10's rehearsals. It's unlikely they'd use another gallery team to use another gallery for that hour.

Newsnight gallery team? It would reduce their rehearsal time, but it is an option. There may be a team still in from World News Today if that was away from the World Studio, so it could be a changeover time with extra teams on. I'm sure someone said the galleries would be interchangable, so in theory the crew making WNT could move between 8.30 and 9 to the virtual studio. I'm making guesses, but I think it is a possibility.

Is Sal in BH doing rehearsals all week as she was on this morning with Komla Dumor? Will she be with JC on the paper review tomorrow?

She tweeted that she would specifically be at BH on 31st Oct.

Thanks, I watched World Business Report this morning and found Alice Barker stumble a lot during that and the paper review. JC was in his stride though on the paper review this morning, I'm sure he misses being behind the desk! Good to see Peter Dobbie on this morning. WIsh Sal was on though this morning with them both, everything would have been much better!

I *think* they're talking about a former newsreader, Jonathan Charles. But half the time you need to understand another dialect in order to post in this thread.
