The last time Katy Kay was on Newsday, she replaced Rico Hizon so came from London and Des Moines, Iowa.
Was not expecting that... Katty Kay & Rico Hizon fronting Newsday.

The point David makes though is that although it looks as though it's the BBC World team/funding that provides the overnight service, it could well be the News Channel team all week even though they use N8 rather than N6. I don't know the answer, but given that like David said it was always traditionally News 24 that drove the overnight service, be it in N8 (then News 24) or N9 (then World), I wouldn't be surprised that such an arrangement hasn't changed. It's probably something practical like N6 needing to cool down or something each day that requires overnights to come from N8. N6 is a traditional TV studio unlike N8 which is converted office space so it may well have special requirements. Then again, I could be talking a load of rubbish.
As far as I'm aware N6 has to be switched off to allow the Barco screens to cool down, N8 doesn't have the same issue.
Looking at the output, it looks like the World team are in charge on weekday nights but over the weekend with the bulletins being very short on World, it may well be a News channel operation.

Nope.
Jon Sopel moving from BBC News Channel to BBC World
Nope.
Quote:
Jon will continue to present on the BBC News Channel and BBC One, in addition to his BBC World News role, as well as being deployed on domestic and international live coverage reporting across BBC TV channels and on the web.

Nope.
If he is deployed on domestic live coverage I will be amazed. None of the World News staff cover domestic stories unless they have International significance.
My money is on him appearing with a similar frequency to Lyse Doucet, covering major International stories on both channels and domestic bulletins. Perhaps occasionally anchoring the main domestic evening news bulletins.
He's hardly going to be sat outside Parliament all day covering the minutiae of british politics if he's got a World News programme with his name in the title.
They likely havent decided on what his full job role will be hence the vaguery of that article.

Whilst I agree that, traditionally, BBC World presenters don't usually cross over that much to the domestic outlets, there is the case of George Alagiah who has, for many years, successfully managed to straddle both channels - GMT is 'his' show but so is the Six O'Clock News.
There was also the example of Philip Hayton many years ago, who presented his own shifts on both BBC News 24 and BBC World every week. So, albeit out of the norm, it's not totally unheard of.
Given Jon Sopel's knowledge and experience of British politics, the BBC are hardly going to waste him solely on BBC World. I suspect on some occasions he will anchor big political news here and someone else will deputise for him on BBC World; much in the same way George Alagiah doesn't always present GMT.

Not Strictly World News, but since when has BBC Russian been using 'Focus on Africa' style titles?

It wasn't like that when they moved into BH. I remember seeing the titles then and they were very London-centric, almost like one of the regions.

And of course Mishal Husain being, arguably, a main presenter on WN doesn't stop her from presenting on BBC1, Newsnight and even this year's Olympics.
Naga Munchetty, too, is a frequent on Breakfast.
